Oakleigh Guest House

Advantages: A warming, pleasant atmosphere with spotless rooms and good service
Disadvantages: Decor not particularly modern

I currently live in Stourport on Severn in the heart of Worcestershire and recently had some distant relatives come to visit for the weekend and we needed somewhere for them to stay as our house just wasn?t big enough to accommodate the whole family. In the end we decided to book a couple of rooms at the Oakleigh Guest House as I had heard good reviews on the place from friends. ~Location~ Oakleigh Guest House is situated right in the heart of Stourport on Severn town centre so is in a perfect location to access all the local amenities. However it is situated far enough away from the main High Street so that you don?t get the noise from the pubs on a Friday and Saturday Night. Holmlea Guesthouse- an acceptable B&B in York

Advantages: reasonable price and free internet entrance.
Disadvantages: no lock in bathroom and no shower in peak time.

My husband and I visited York city for 4 days during September 2009. The base for our stay was a B&B named Holmlea Guesthouse. Why we chose it? Before we started our trip we searched on the internet trying to find reasonably priced accommodation that ideally was close to the tourist areas of York. Most B&Bs and hotels we found charged at least £60 for a double room per night. However Holmlea was an exception. On their own website they advertised £45 for a double room with private bathroom, but not en-suite. Personally I?m not used to a room without an en-suite bathroom, so I hesitated to choose Holmlea. We searched again and found even if you were prepared to pay £60 we still couldn?t get a room with en-suite bathroom. So we decided to take a chance with Holmlea. Review of Holmlea Guest House, York

Jorvik centre: York

Advantages: Very good attraction!!
Disadvantages: Expensive!

The Jorvik center is if you didn't know, situated in the center of York, Yorkshire. Its one of the main attractions in the city and brings in hundreds of tourists and school visitors. The Jorvik Centre (pronounced Yorvic), is a real acheaology site, where the Vikings of York lived thousands of years ago. Its a museum with a twist though, as with "normal" museums, you walk around, you read signs and miss most things, especially if you have kids with you! But, this place is very different, when you enter, your taken into a "time machine", where you sit, and your told a short story, and a scientist takes us back in time to 975AD when the Vikings lived in York.
