I vistied Bordeuax in the summer for the Bristol-Bordeaux exchange. This consisted of me going to Bordeaux for two weeks trying to improve my French. It worked!
there is a lot of great features in Bordeaux. the airoport was the first thing i saw. It was very clean and ran on time.
I then was on the road where you see all the vine yards and big houses. the only bad thing was the amount of grafiti. this was probably becasue i was driving through a bad suburb.
The shops in Bordeaux are very good with a huge selection of shops. The main shopping street is about 1km long (well so i was told.) they had all the good English shops which were a little cheaper. Those of you who know how much Quicksilver costs will be suprised that you could buy shirts for 5euro about 3-4 pounds. Then they had my favourite shop which i think should be introduced too britain. Its caleed 'tnac" It is an electrical shop where ou can try out all the latest gadgets.
For childre in Bordeaux the bus service is free in the week days which is also very reliable. In bristol i dont bother looking at what time the buses are arriving on the bus signs at the bus stops. In Bordeaux they all look at them. It seems to arrive exactly on time and are very smart, clean and hav very quiet engines.
The only negatives of Bordeuaux was of the grafitti i saw and the number of homeless people. in Britain we see very few homelss women. In Bordeaux i saw more than i saw men. Its quite shocking i thought.
The River is a great feature of Bordeaux. On one side its full fo office blocks. On that side of the river is a cafe which is owned by Zinidine Zidane and another famous fotballer which i cant rememebr at the moment. On the other side are the shops.
Outside Bordeaux you have places such as the Dordoigne and Arcachon both of which are tourisity places but both are very nice. Dordoigne is famous for its beauty whilst arcachon is a Sea sideresort which has many wonderful beaches with great restaurants and bars.
I would say that if your visiting France. pop down to Bordeaux for a couple of days. Its a very beautiful place with a lot of great sites. The best day to go is Bastille day. Well that was the day i arrivied and that night there was a splendid fireworks display along the river. it is a 'sparkling' place.
