Review of La Palombiere Campsite, Sarlat by atticusuk

Advantages: Great location and super facilities
Disadvantages: Surface around the pool

...and were staying at the La Palombiere Campsite. Things looked promising from the outset as the campsite was highly recommended in the Rough Guide for the Dordogne book and fiends spoke highly of it as well. Getting There Our journey there was pretty good, using Euro tunnel it was an eight hour drive with the only tricky bit the drive through Paris and we broke it up with an overnight in Orleans. The other alternatives would be flights into Toulouse ...
...or a ferry to Northern Spain and a drive up through the south however both of these options would have been more expensive and not so convenient especially as the flight would have restricted the amount of things we could bring which is not ideal when camping. The location of the campsite is about 7km from the popular tourist town of Sarlat and was relatively easy to find using the route finder on Google maps, indeed this system seemed to work better ... Ibis Bordeaux Centre Meriadeck

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful, central location secure car parking
Disadvantages: Not far from fire station and police HQ, the sirens!

...who has stayed in a IBIS will know they use the same format throughout, this IBIS is no exception. The car park is around the back and underground, I have been there many times and never found it to be full. Outside and to the left is the newly opened electric tram system serving the whole of the city. The reception are is a bit dated, but arguably so are all hotels in France. The reception staff speak numerous languages and seemed happy to converse ...
...hotel is over about 11 floors and all floors are served by one of three lifts so waiting times are kept to a minimum. Each floor is based around a square doughnut, the quiet rooms with no view are on the inside, the view and the sirens are on the outside. Last year they fitted triple glazing and unless your a very light sleeper you can't hear the noise anymore. The rooms sleep 3 comfortably in a double and a bed sofa, they have a colour TV with ...
