Boringdon Hall is an amazing old 16th century manor house with links to Henry the VIII. In March 1989 part of the house was burnt down in a tragic fire and a lot of money was put into it to restore it back to its former glory. It is surrounded by 7acres of beautiful gardens and looks like something you would see in a period drama. It has 41 bedrooms and this includes 4 rooms with stunning four poster beds. Boringdon Hall not only hosts wedding but they also run murder mystery nights and casino nights. You can request to hold a conference there and they have a stunning restaurant if you fancy a meal out.

My wife and I decided it was time to get married and although we weren't engaged we thought wed have a little look at a few venues. A friend of a friend had recently had their reception at Boringdon Hall so we thought we'd take a look. It was about 10 minutes away from our parish church so thought it would be ideal if we liked it.

We drove to Plympton and it was sign posted from the main road which was very handy as we weren't entirely sure where it was even though we were both 'born and bred' Plymouthians. There was a long driveway which headed up to the building which was shaded by trees which we thought would be great for photos (as long as we didn't get knocked over!). As we got closer and the building came into view it took my breath away. It was a stunning castle with so much character and I knew already that this was the place for us.

We parked up and couldn't take our eyes off the place and I was hopeful that the inside would be as beautiful as the outside. As we walked through the front door there was a quirky little knights outfit free standing which made us laugh. We were greeted by our wedding coordinator who showed us around the rest of the building.

The Great Hall was by far the nicest of all the rooms. The warm, deep burgundy carpets and walls and the lavish heavy curtains make the whole room so comfortable. There is also a huge fireplace and above that a picture the size of my bedroom which depicts a fight scene from Henry the VIII's time.

The room where we would be having our reception if we decided to book the place wasn't the best room in the building but it seated a hundred people so it would be fine. There was also a fully licensed bar in the corner of the room too. There was no disabled access to the room either which could have been a problem because I have a disabled cousin and my nan could barely walk. By this point that didn't matter to me because I had already booked it and paid a deposit in my mind. I just hoped my wife to be was as eager as I was!

Throughout the building the décor was tastefully suited to the building with lots of antiques placed here and there giving it such character. There was also lots of hidden staircases and little hideaways which I thought would be great for the younger children (and their parents!).

The gardens were wonderful. I pictured all the lovely photos that we could have taken. There was a beautiful arbour in one part of the garden which sat next to a lovely, old lamp post. In another part there was a gorgeous sundial.

So, we booked our wedding there. It was quite expensive but no more than some other places we looked at and included in the over all price was one night b&b in a four poster bed room, the flowers and décor in the reception room. They wanted to charge us £10 a head for the evening buffet but when we told them that we couldn't really afford that they asked us what we could afford and did what they could for that amount which was great.

We met with the wedding coordinator numerous times and she was amazing throughout the whole thing. She couldn't do enough to help us and kept in contact regularly.

On the actual day everything went smoothly and it really was a dream. I'd definitely recommend this place not only to get married in but to just take a look at. If you are visiting Plymouth at anytime go and take a look it will take your breath away.

The room we had was a bridal suite with a luxury four poster bed and large bathroom. It costs £150 for this room, but prices range from £70 to £150.

In conclusion, it's one of the most dated and beautiful hotels in Plymouth. Customer service was perfect, the rooms old fashioned and basic but clean and tidy, and the reception rooms adequate.
