Advantages: Hot and sunny in the summer, safe clean beaches, good value for money Disadvantages: Can be cold and wet in January and February, little for bored children, not much night-life and water-sports
...out of town) through to hotelapartments, at a wide variety of prices. These change from season to season, so it's always worth checking online or with a travel agent. You can see some of the classier hotels at the page http://i-hotels.iagora.com/hotels-in-Larnaka.htm (prices given in euros) or a wider selection including some hotelapartments at http://www.cyprushotelsguide.net/larnaca.shtml - and many more. Search for 'Larnaca' as well as 'Larnaka', since both spellings are used.
The youth hostel is not recommended. It's very run-down, and badly maintained. We were told that Cyprus was removed from the International Youth Hostelling Association a few years ago due to the low standards.

Advantages: Great dive school and great sites to visit Disadvantages: Limassol is not the nicest area in Cyprus
...Prior to arriving in Limassol my husband and I starting trawling the net for diving schools in the Limassol area and after communicating by e-mail with several of them we decided to book up with Aloha Divers. They told us that when we arrived we could call them and they'd come and pick us up from our hotel but we managed to find them quite easily ourselves. We paid approximately 12 Cypriot Pounds per dive (we had our own kit) except for the 2 dives on the Zenobia which cost £C50 and included transport to Larnaca and a buffet lunch on the dive boat.
There are a good variety of dives off the Limassol coast. Most of them...

...Well, I was in Nicosia, for 2 weeks last year. Hired an apartment from a local Cypriot for £100 Cyprus. Nicosia is quite a large city which is divided into two. The United Nations have a security force, which can be seen daily around Nicosia town. You can get almost everything in Nicosia. They have Marks & Spencers, KFC, MacDonalds (these guys seems to be everywhere). Be warned that the weather is extremely hot in Nicosia. We hired car, and drove around. The sad thing was that the car was without air conditioning, so we practically had an unwanted sun-tan (burnt - to be true). On the whole it was good. Armed with a map, we drove out to Larnaca, Ayia Napa, Protaras, Trodos Mountains, Paphos and Limasol. These were day trips we made. We took a day or two break in between to get a feel of Nicosia. If any one goes to Nicosia, check out...
