Boston has a feel of the old colonial times with lots of new and modern attractions thrown in. There are less skyscrapers than most US cities and in general feels less built up allowing a more open ... ...and easy to use, and Boston can be easily reached by air, bus or train. I took the train there from Chicago, however Boston has two main amtrak stations, so make sure you know which one you are getting off at. I got off at back bay but unfortunately my luggage went to central and it took 46 hours to retrieve it.

Boston has a feel of the old colonial times with lots of new and modern attractions thrown in. There are less skyscrapers than most US cities and in general feels less built up allowing a more open and fresh feeling to the city. It also apeared to me like there were more trees and greenery in the city than one would usually expect. The underground is clean and easy to use, and Boston can be easily reached by air, bus or train. I took the train there from Chicago, however Boston has two main amtrak stations, so make sure you know which one you are getting off at. I got off at back bay but unfortunately my luggage went to central and it took 46 hours to retrieve it.
The john hancock building gives a lovely view of the entire city and you can gain a free history lesson while in there, althought the history lesson was very much into bashing the english making me feel a little uncomfortable. Cheers bar is just a couple of minutes from there, but be expected to wait in very long queues and pay high prices for a beer ( also remember the drinking age is 21 in the US). Around harvard are some wonderful cafes and some of the best busking i have ever heard. The harbour is beautiful and there are enactments of the boston tea party. The fresh fish here is also devine, i never said i liked fish till i tried the fresh stuff there.
This is a reasonably small city and easy to find your way around, it is worth spending a little time studying the map and doing a little planning before venturing out, it makes for smoother running when you start hitting the sights. I travelled alone and as a single woman did not feel threatened in any way, however i did stick to well know places and listened to locals who advised me on where i should not go. I would recomend that unless someone is a very confident solo traveler like myself that you visit any US city with at least one other person. Besides this also gives you more people to share the great memories with.
Advantages: Small and easy to get around, lots of stuff to do Disadvantages: The Big Dig makes driving a nightmare
Boston is a great city to spend a few days in, and conveniently sited for day trips into the surrounding area. A tiny city compared to New York, it is much less hectic with a nicer climate. If you want to eat seafood, this is the place to come (if not, don't panic, there are plenty of other options too, with many ethnic restaurants and steak houses). Things to do: go whale-watching (take a warm jumper and camera), definitely worth the money though ... ...the whole family. Do the Boston Duck Tour (tickets and start from Prudential tower), a great way to get your bearings, and much more fun than a standard tour, especially when you make a "big splash" into the Charles river. The aquarium is great for adults and kids, while the wide range of instant food on offer in Quincy market should tempt even the fussiest palate. Go up the Hancock tower at night and eavesdrop on the air-traffic controllers at Logan ...

Advantages: lots to do and not just shopping Disadvantages: very cold in January

We went to Boston in January so we guessed it would be cold, but the flights were cheap (i.e. would have cost us about the same for a weekend break in Europe) and we had the advantage of Boston shopping, cheap US prices, and no language problems. But I do not think we really expected it to be as cold as it was but with our big coats, hats and gloves it was not to bad. But the layout of Boston really helped as just across the road from our ... ...to the location of the Boston tea party (unfortunately the boat was shut due to the time of year) a meal inside cheers, as you may know only the outside was used in the show but it was a nice meal all the same, for a meal in a look-a-like cheers bars cheers in central London is a good bet and we also we to the science museum which was interesting, we went here on the last day of our trip after we checked out the hotel/motel so we had all out luggage, ...

Boston aquarium is a very fun day out, it is the aquarium where andrai
(like in the film) lived. It is expecially good if you have small
children, however probably not quite as good for moody teenagers.
The exebitions are very interesting and there are shows E.g. Feeding the sharks, The Walrus Show, the coral reef show. The shows are scheguald quite frequently so if you miss one its not long till another. Also the aquarium is very near the centre ... ...If its your last day in Boston and you are getting a plane out, it is also easy to see the aquarium in half a day and make it in time for your flight easily, the aquarium haas an asortment of restarants, so you dont have to worry about food. ...

...get to thw hole of Boston if the whether is fine. The centre of Boston is brilliant, with shopping areas, bars, restaurants and cafes as well as quincy market, a food court lasting the length of the old building with multi-cultural food on offer. Also the transport into the centre as from where i was staying you could walk, or take an all-day troley bus which could be picked at the many stops, as well as this the MTA provides a historic and relatively ... ...a short trip out of Boston on the MTA, arrivals can be easily transported through to the centre of Boston and it is also ideal with a shuttle bus ferrying people back and forth from the terminal to the MTA station at no cost. Places to visit in Boston include Cambridge and Harvard in one trip, the Cheers bar, the Boston tea party, and the previously mentioned buildings. Also there are several tourist friendly trail routes which make sure you see ...

- You can cycle anywhere without being fumigated. Try back Bay cycles on Newbury street, near Tower Records, for hire. - You can walk around the place on foot - all the main tourist sites are on "The Freedom Trail" which is marked by a red brick line - dead simple to follow. I like my home comforts when I am travelling abroad, but Mr Tart is quite happy to stay in any old hostel. We were looking for somewhere to stay on a trip to Boston and had decided that a guest house would be a happy medium. However, they weren?t that cheap and when I had a look on Expedia and found a Hilton for less money I couldn?t believe my luck!
LOCATION:
This Hilton is located in Boston?s Financial District. It is at 89 Broad Street. Despite it being in the Financial District we found it very easy to walk from the hotel to the main tourist sites of the city. Quincy Market and the Old State House were only 10 minutes walk away.
PRICES:
The price of this particular hotel seems to vary a lot depending on when you stay and who you book through. As the hotel is in the Financial District it puts up a lot of business ...
Advantages: Excellent dollar rate, laid back city Disadvantages: Spent too much shopping and did not get to see the famous New England Fall trees!
About a month ago now, my partner Paul and l headed off for a short break to Boston, Massachusetts, from 2nd December until 7th December.
We flew from Belfast City airport with BMI – at a cost of around £80 per person return, flying on to from London Heathrow with United Airlines to Washington Dulles then to Boston’s Logan International airport. This cost approximately £550 for 2 adults.
Now we flew with United for one simple reason – United are Star Alliance members – we could have flown direct to Boston with the likes of British Airways or Virgin Atlantic – but we would not have gained air miles and membership miles (l know its sad!)
The overall flight took from 8.55am and we arrived into Boston around 2pm (-5 GMT). So it was just over 10 hours – a direct flight would take over 7 hours ...

I was only in Boston, Massachusetts once on business. I went alone and stayed at the Radisson Hotel in the downtown area. Boston is a City that one and a half million people call home, (the 10th largest in the USA).

My half day meeting was at Cambridge University, (one of the 60 plus Colleges or Universities). I was the Executive Producer of a Documentary Film and I was talking to show it to the Dean of the Fine Arts Department before we "color corrected it". He met me at the Airport but had to wait a long time because know one ever told me that you could not bring a movie into the United States without special papers.
They Customs agreed that I could take it with me for three days. If I did not leave the Country within that time, (with the film), I would be arrested.
