I was only in Boston, Massachusetts once on business. I went alone and stayed at the RadissonHotel in the downtown area. Boston is a City that one and a half million people call home, (the 10th largest in the USA).
~O WHAT I SAW O~
My half day meeting was at Cambridge University, (one of the 60 plus Colleges or Universities). I was the Executive Producer of a Documentary Film and I was talking to show it to the Dean of the Fine Arts Department before we "color corrected it". He met me at the Airport but had to wait a long time because know one ever told me that you could not bring a movie into the United States without special papers.
They Customs agreed that I could take it with me for three days. If I did not leave the Country within that time, (with the film), I would be arrested.
The Dean was kind enough to take me to the Hotel where I checked in and sent my bags to the room.
We drove along the left bank of the Charles Rive to reach the University. Cambridge is another City that runs into Boston. You wouldn't know that they were different Cities without seeing the
sign. We drove pas the ivy leave old buildings to reach the Fine Arts Building. I cannot tell you how beautiful this University is.
I got back to the Hotel that night and was so tired I took a shower, ordered room service and went to bed.
The next day I hired a private Guide to show me some of the sites because there are so many and I wanted to visit as much as I could.
We first went to see the Boston Common which was the fist Park the City built, (my Guide told me that there are over 2,000 Parks today. This should tell you that this City is so green and pretty.
Next I saw the Museum of Science as was surpriser to find that the entrance was free. I wasn't interested in the Children's areas, (Dinosaurs and finding minerals), so we went to see the Natural Mysteries. We began our journey in a Theater where we saw a multimedia presentation on what we were about to see. We saw thousands of artifact as we walk though the Dessert Mystery, (I was an Apache Tracker looking for the footprints of people and animals). At the Mystery Beach we were shown a variety of sands and had to try an guess which U.S. Beach the sand came from, (I only knew the sands of Hilo, Hawaii and Miami Beach). We found a deserted School House that was in a Forrest at the New England Mystery. We had go look at the fossils to try and find out when it was built.
Next we went to see the President John Kennedy Library, (the entrance fee is $6.00 USD per person). I will never forget the day he was murdered and wanted to see the collection that begins when he was young, when he lived in London, (his Father was the United States Ambassador to London), his time in the Navy during WW II and his assassination and the burial procession.
Boston is on Massachusetts Bay and I wanted where the "Boston Tea Party" took place. If your not a History buff this event was a protest of the high taxes the British Government had place on imported tea. The Bostonians dumped all of the tea into the Bay. You can learn all about this at the Boston Tea Party Museum. The entrance fee was $4.00.
That night the Dean and his Wife were kind enough to take me out to dinner at the Sbarrro Italian Restaurant and then to see a performance of the famous Boston Pops Orchestra at Symphony Hall.
The performance that night was a combination of songs by The Beatles. I had never heard their music played this way and some of their music I didn't understand before I have since that night. I have watch many Boson Pops TV Programs but nothing can compare with listening to a live performance.
The following day I only had a half a day free before my plane left. I went to see the famous Trinty Church and then I went shopping.
The Hotel is near the Theater area in Boston. I paid $160.00 USD for my single room.
The Lobby was large and there were some Sofas & Chairs to sit in. I don't belong to the Radisson Club so I could not check in there. There were only two front desk people at the check-in desk so there was a few people ahead of me. It took about 15 minutes for me to check-in.
I did not see my single room until I returned from the University. I was surprised to find that it was quite large.
It was decorated in pink, coral and rust colors. The bed had a cosy Comforter. There was a balcony. My view was a Street view so I could see a lot of the area nearby.
There was a small table with two arm chairs, a lot of closet space, four deep drawers, a night table on both sides of the bed. On one night table was a clock radio and on the other side was a telephone, (there was another phone on the work-desk).
On top of the Chest of Drawers was a large T.V. Set. On one side was a coffee/tea maker and a small fridge that I never used because the snacks, soda pop and liquor was very expensive.
On the other side of the T.V. was a work Desk that had a data port for your computer. There was a safe and an ironing board with an iron.
The bathroom was decorated in the pink colors and there was a toilet, tub shower and one sink. There were amenities that were made from coconut oil.
Every morning a free Boston Herald was left outside my bedroom door.
I ate at the Hotel three times. The first night I ordered room service. The other two times I had breakfast at The Theater Café.
I didn't have time to see the other Restaurant or use any of the other things in the Hotel, (the swimming pool, the Fitness Center or the Stuart Street Playhouse that shows off Broadway Musicals).
The Hotel seemed very clean to me and the Staff I came in contact with were very helpful.
~O WHERE I SHOPPED O~
I'm like lightening when I shop and go through a shop in a minute. I only stay if I see something I want to buy. Thank goodness my Husband wasn't with me because he has to touch everything in a Store!
I went to the Sharper Image Shop to buy my Husband a Clock that tells the exact time. He likes to set his Watch and all of our Clocks ten minutes fast so we won't be late for anything. With this Clock he can't do it because it goes back to the right time.
I went to the Duty Free Shop and bought a complete set of Yves Saint Laurent's "”Opium" products. I could have done this at the Airport but I knew that I would have to "visit" the United States Customs to prove I was leaving with my Movie. This way these would be waiting for me at the departure gate.
By now it was time to go to the Airport. The Dean had offered to drive me but I wouldn't let him and took the Hotel's Shuttle Bus, ($10.00 USD per person).
~O SOME THOUGHTS O~
I don't know if it is just me but I think that the people from Massachusetts have a different accent than other people who live in the U.S.A. I'm not sure if it's because many Bostonians come from Ireland or if they are still talking like the English!
I loved Boston and I hope to go back one day. If you are looking for a nice place to visit I hope you will think about this City.

Good op, Lyla. I have always fancied seeing Boston and New England during Autumn. I've heard the colours and the landscapes are pretty spectacular. Andy.
