Hi, I am sold on the economy, and how to improve oneself, including financially. In order to do this product testing, checking and 'changing' is important for 'best value'. Travel is a must, oh, and footy!

As a frequent visitor of Bournemouth I thought it prudent to share my thoughts on the town, which really could be a city due to its size.
The town centre is a treat by day for any shopper. Many very well known shops and too some less known, including designer clothes shops, Debenhams, Beales, etc, are all within walking distance of each other, all being at various directions from Bournemouth Square. Good shops, well laid out, all user friendly, but there is one disadvantage. All roads from the square which has shops are all uphill! Some having more of a slope than others. The disabled are catered for but remember the slopes!
From the shops you can walk to the beach and pier. The beach is sandy but 'full' of people on a nice day. The pier runs summer shows, the show for summer 2001 is THEFT, which has recently done a tour of the country.
Just a stone throw from the pier is the Bournemouth International Centre, or BIC as they call it locally. This houses restaurants, coffee bars, a swimming pool which has a wave machine, and two theatres, the main theatre has summer shows and groups visiting on a regular basis.
There are cinemas, casino, and hundreds of hotels all around, some of the hotels are included in seperate reports by me.
The Square and the beach is walkable through Bournemouth Winter Gardens. These gardens are beautiful and house a bandstand, crazy golf, a minagerie, paintings, a stream, oh, and of course squirrels. These squirrels are worth a mention as they can be so tame they will take food from your hand!
So tranquil it is during the day.
However, night falls and the darkness arrives. The Winter Gardens are lit up and are a picture. All the lights of the amusement arcades are displayed to lovely colour. There are small stands and a merry go round on the sea front which add to the glamour.
But then.........the people, mostly younger than me (I am 42 by the way), come out to the vast array of nightclubs and pubs. The weekends seem to be one big stag or hen night. There is quite a bit of rowdyism, noise is loud with car tyres screeching and people shouting and singing. The hotel window MUST be closed in order to sleep! The cars mentioned are driven by a small group of local people who use part of the town centre as a place for time trials! Who stops them? Well there are not many police officers on view for starters. These cars make crossing the road a dangerous hazard and can spoil the town, in fact it does spoil the town.
A great place to stay for the weekend, safe at day, but be carefull late at night.

My grandparents live in Bournemouth and i have also noticed the number of louts about in the evenings...it never used to be as bad as it is now! My gran wont go out in the evenings by the pier on her own now because of all the people drinking, its a shame. Great review!

I work in Bournemouth and often go out there in the evenings - I agree with most of what you said, it is noisy and there are a lot of people around, but I never feel unsafe there. Hannah x
