Advantages: If you like plants and trees, you'll have the most amazing experience ever. Disadvantages: Mosquito bites, humidity, but hey this is a tropical conutry!
...I could go on hours talking about the Pamplemousses Garden. Created by the Frenchman Pierre Poivre, it strectches over endless acres of land and it will take you more than a week to do the whole garden populated with more than 650 varieties of plants among which the famous Baobabs , the palmier bouteille, the ineluctable giant waterlilies and the Spice garden.
State employed guides are available at the entrance[speak good english] , for one hour visit at very affordable prices. [Trust me i'm mauritian].
Check out the award winnig victorian gate at the entrance and the first sugar mill in Mauritius next to the centenary giant tortoises. Don't miss out on a reconstruction of the Chateux de Mon plaisir, typical colonial demeure, and the samadhi[gravestone] of SS Ramgoolam, Father of the Mauritian nation, who won the mauritian independance....

...This is a place where you can easily spend 10Euros on an orange juice. So if you are going to buy a drink, make it a proper one and make it in a spot worth paying money for! Large sunglasses are always in, and just like St. Trop. a bit of gold glamour never did any harm. I love Cannes all year around, but the best months are definately June and September-October. This way you avoid the crowds, you can find a spot on one of the two free beaches and enjoy the sunshine. If you like boat watching there are two great ports to cruise around, watch the deckies sweating in the sun. The old town of Cannes is especially beautiful at night, some wonderful restaurants and little shops to peruse. Truely a great town to visit....

Advantages: the only place to stay in Cannes Disadvantages: Probably not the most family friendly if your children aren't used to hotels.
...Le Carlton is an institution in Cannes! It is an amazing hotel with history back to the beginning of the 1900's. It was occupied by the Germans during the second world war. The two points on either side of the hotel were shaped after a woman's breasts. Just this information shows you that it is a hotel of immense history and character. The staff are the highest paid hotel staff in Cannes and possibly the Cote d'Azur and it shows in the quality of service. For a full experience try to get a room overlooking the front of the hotel, although the side rooms are larger and some do have partial sea views. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel over anyother in the area....
