I know - lets build a park in the middle of a main road! Aside from that, there's knack all there.
Bradford Central Park consists of a fountain, three wooden donkeys ... ...a waste of taxpayers money!), four phone boxes, a link with the Interchange and carbon monoxide. What fun! Well, what can I say? I suppose it looks OK as you're driving past, rather than the concrete that stood there before and it _IS_ safe (providing you don't run out into the middle of Hall Ings) seeing as around the fountain is a non-slip floor so, you guessed it, when you're running in and out of the fountain you don't slip.

What fun! Well, what can I say? I suppose it looks OK as you're driving past, rather than the concrete that stood there before and it IS safe (providing you don't run out into the middle of Hall Ings) seeing as around the fountain is a non-slip floor so, you guessed it, when you're running in and out of the fountain you don't slip.
The area is based on the idea of "Bradford-by-the-sea", which, on reflection is probably why the floor is covered in sand. As opposed to all the other areas in the city, the bins are GREEN as opposed to black which, for some reason, the council must have thought made it look more like the seaside. The fountain is actually quite attractive and not like the one opposite the police station and magistrates courts which is just an oblong pond with an "up-down" fountain (and a tin of pink emulsion) in there. The fountain isn't in a pond but on the floor with drainage around it so the non-slip floor doesn't get slippery (and so as not to cause a flood and so as to re-use water to recoup the money spent on the wooden horses). It's one of those fountains that does different patterns as opposed to being "up-down" like the one opposite the police station.
The horses/donkeys/whatever are lined up behind each other and each one is slightly smaller than the one behind it. The benches (also green) around the area are those really uncomfortable ones which have the holes spelling "BRADFORD" out in them. Give me a good old-fashioned park bench any day!
On reflection, it's not a BAD use of the area as before it was just a concrete pavement. It does make the area look tidier and a nicer place and its a good place to meet up because if they don't know where Central Park is, they'll sure-as-hell know where the wooden donkeys are! Not really worth a "visit" but maybe a glance as you drive past.
