Brannigan's is the epitome of un-cool, and is all the better for it. Red blooded straight men can be seen strutting their stuff to the Weather Girl's "It's Raining Men", and no-one questions their reasons for doing so other than to have a bloody good time. The same goes to the YMCA and practically the whole Steps back catalogue! It's old fashioned party music at its cheesy best and guarantees ... more
Believe it or not, the title of this op is the slogan which adorns the tv screens inside Brannigan's, sexual connotations aplenty. As From_the _Continent requested, here is my opinion on a straight club! Although, to tell the truth, on the strength of the music played, you wouldn't think it was!
Every Tuesday at Brannigan's clubs across the UK (it's a chain) is student night, when the cheesiest records of all time are played at raucous volumes! On the production of any old student card, admission is free. And, best of all, pints of beer and cider and shots of vodka, whiskey and bacardi are a mere £1 each! A spirit with mixer costs £1.50 while all other drinks (bottled beers, alcopops) are at regular inflated prices.

That said, ages probably range from 17 to 30 with the odd middle-ager clinging onto the final throes of feeling young. And with the student night prices, it's not hard!
It's old fashioned party music at its cheesy best and guarantees a packed dance-floor by around 11pm. It is perhaps a little too packed at times, and if you suffer from any type of chlostrophobia (I won't even pretend to be able to spell that!) it is probably not advised to stay too late, or to go at all!
My only major qualm with the place is the extremely tight security measures. Beefed up male AND female security people wander around constantly watching for any untoward shenanigans. However, their most fundamental role is making sure no one takes drinks onto the stage, which functions only as an elevated dance floor for most of the night. This is insanely annoying if, like me, you like to dance and drink at the same time. And don't try and smuggle one in round the back; their eagle eyes will catch you out pronto. I was threatened with being thrown out when i tried to have a craft sip of cider in between dance moves!
Every few months or so, major chart acts from days gone by attempt to resurrect their careers by performing at Brannigan's all over the country. Recently these have included Jason Donovan and "the one and only" Chesney Hawkes. The next failed star to make a comeback will be Scandinavian songstress Whigfield! Totally cringe-worthy it may be, but its fun to make fun of them more than anything else!
So there we go! A straight club masquerading as a gay place, it would seem. In fact, for the rest of the week, Brannigan's plays the regular dance and garage fodder and is strict on who it lets in. Tuesday's are a break from the norm, a time when the clientele aren't all up their own arses, dressed for business meeting and prepared to pay £3 for a bottle of beer. I prefer to steer away from those nights and those people; I'd much prefer to wear casual clothes, dance to cheese and not feel totally out of place. I dare you to do the same.
Being an out of town person i decided to proceed into Broad street in Birmingham one night when i was amazed to see the size of the que to get in i instantly thought this place must be kicking! After queing for hlf an-hour i eventually got in and proceeded to the bar where it took me only half my night to get two drinks, a lager for me and a vodka and tonic for my lady who was almost ready to leave. We finished our drinks and i then qued for the ... ...find my lonely girlfriend who was no where to be seen. After searching for almost half an hour i went onto the dancefloor to see if she was there maybe throwing out a few moves as you do! Anyway as i was leaving the dancefloor to go outside and probaly off to home i was grabbed by a load of 30 somethings who were on a hen night. I was then handcuffed to the girl who was getting married and she was unconcious and lead outside by the bouncers into ...

Advantages: Great night out Disadvantages: none really
...was a student in Birmingham Brannigans was one of the first places I went to for a night on the town. I had been to places such as Dome II, where there were blokes in Ben Sherman shirts everywhere I looked! I really wanted to find somewhere more individual so I didn't have to try and pretend to be trendy. My first impression was a good one because I discovered that it cost nothing to get in with an NUS card. I was so pleased bearing in mind it costs ... ...I can't tell you about that I'm afraid! I would really recommend Brannigans to anyone who wants to really let their hair down and have a fantastic night out with their mates. It will always be dear to me because thats where I got together with my boyfriend!! ...

Advantages: cheesy music, drinks promo's Disadvantages: rude bar staff, very busy
When it comes to cheesy music Brannigan's is the place to be. I've seen both Jason Donovan (looking rather old and bald I must say) and the one and only Chesney Hawkes (the one hit wonder performed more songs than Jase!?) there and on a Tuesday night the place is alive with the best pop hits from across the decades. If you don't like students then I'd give this place a miss as here we reign. The food is good ( so I've been told)and there's always ... ...packed but then any popular place is going to be. There's a big dance floor and plenty of bars so it's not normally too bad. However, we recently discovered that if you don't fancy the barmen they will refuse to serve you. A group of friends and I had been laughing joking around with the bar staff as you do on a night out when one of them turned and asked us if we fancied the one of the others. My mate jokingly replied "No way, he's ugly" with which ...

Advantages: cheap to get in Disadvantages: 45 minutes to get a pint
Heard everyone say how good this place was I didn't mind queing outside for almost half an hour and then queing for 45 minutes to get a drink. Then finding there's nowhere to go because it so packed and it was full of over 40's. Tried to make it to the dancefloor but couldnt get past the veterans. Hardley any youngsters in there, the youngest women were on a hen party. Lager was watered down and expensive. Bottles were over £3. It was £2.50 to get ...

Advantages: Big, comfortable. Car park - if someone else is driving. Disadvantages: Dodgy rep. No easy cash access.
I have to say that I really do love that tag-line. That’s the Eating, Drinking and Cavorting one. It really does conjure up ideas of having a good time in my wanton little mind.
Is Brannigans that good?
If you believed what was said about it I doubt you’d go in there without one of those big guns and motion trackers from Aliens. A team of highly trained marines might help keep you safe as well - but I wouldn’t place any bets on them all getting out alive.
It seems that almost everybody has a friend or knows someone with a friend who’s had a bad experience at Brannigans. In fact, one of my friends from work has a friend who, while out in Brannigans, saw someone smash a glass bottle of some poor chap’s head without any apparent provocation. The Bouncers, I’m told, didn’t seem to want to ...

Advantages: Cheap drinks, student friendly, fun atmosphere Disadvantages: Often too full and cramped, long entrence qeues
When you can move in Brannigans you have a bloody good night, but thats the only flaw in this Bar/Pub, it's always so busy that moving around becomes difficult! Mondays are by far the best nights, with £1 entry, all draught and selected bottles £1 and chart music all night long. So you can get razzled for next to nothing and have a boogie with ya mates all night long.
In the daytime Brannigans serves excellent value meals and drinks and is definitely worth checking out for lunch.
Nights vary from live acts every wednesday, to students night on Mondays and loads in between. All the live football, international Rugby games on the screen and cheap drinks makes this a must on any good Bar Crawl. ...

at a lot of places without booking ahead as well.
All the pubs and clubs are close together in the middle of town, just off the prom (sea front).
My main recommendations are;
For the young and those wanting to "disco" go to The Waterfront (on the prom) which is a massive club with 2 rooms playing different tunes. On average you'll pay £6 to get in at the weekend but you'll probably have to queue. Open til 2/3am.
For those that are a little bit older and wanting to dance but to Abba, YMCA and the like, go to Brannigans (on the prom as well), Only £1 to get in after 11pm at the weekend and free at all other times. Open til 1pm.
For anyone up for a laugh, a dance and being squashed go to the constantly busy Yates (on Talbot Road). This is free to get in but is open to 1pm. This is definitely the best pub. Other good pubs are O ...
