Brannigans, Birmingham

When it comes to cheesy music Brannigan's is the place to be. I've seen both Jason Donovan (looking rather old and bald I must say) and the one and only Chesney Hawkes (the one hit wonder performed more songs than Jase!?) there and on a Tuesday night the place is alive with the best pop hits from across the decades. If you don't like students then I'd give this place a miss as here we reign. The food is good ( so I've been told)and there's always loads of drinks promotions. The place is admittedly usually packed but then any popular place is going to be. There's a big dance floor and plenty of bars so it's not normally too bad. However, we recently discovered that if you don't fancy the barmen they will refuse to serve you. A group of friends and I had been laughing joking around with the bar staff as you do on a night out when one of them turned and asked us if we fancied the one of the others. My mate jokingly replied "No way, he's ugly" with which he turned his back on us and said "Fine, then you won't get served". He preceeded to tell all the others not to serve us either. We stood there for a while thinking they were just having a lugh (as we all had been earlier) but they quite deliberatly served people in front of us when we'd been waiting longer. In the end we had to go to one of the other bars to get our drinks. We were particularly annoyed as it was two-for-one cocktail night and you can only get cocktails from one particular bar. While I recommend Brannigan's for a great cheesy night out ( or for a few pre-club drinks), you should be warned that the bar staff have a serious lack of sense of humour. They can dish it out but they can't take it!
