My wife and I have just returned from Branston Hall Hotel, Lincoln. We spent just one night at this fabulous hotel and was delighted by the charm of the Hall, the warmth of the staff and the facilities available.
I will try and explain the entire stay and what made it so special to us.

There is also a Spa treatment centre on site, which is extra. Tennis is provided free of charge with an arrangement of a local club. There is no Gym.
The Stay -------------- We stayed overnight Tuesday to Wednesday, and paid £139.50, which is for two people in the Standard Double Bedroom including Dinner and Breakfast. Check in was not until 2pm, but having arrived at 1.30pm they were more than happy to book us in early. The front of the Building boasts a porch way and two very large wooden doors that open in to the Reception area. The entire building has wooden panelling with art works in keeping with the period of the house and decor. We were checked in by a friendly member of staff and was given a room key - yes, I did say a key, no computer swipe cards, but a key. In fact the only thing slightly modern was a charge card that was printed by computer. We were then told of the facilities available, and invited to book a table in the Restaurant, which we did.
The Room ----------------- The room was on the second floor and was on the front of the building overlooking the driveway. We had to climb a very impressive wide wooden staircase to our room and was met on each landing by flowers, decor and period tables with information about the Hall and events forthcoming. For those guests that might struggle with the stairs there was a lift. The door was a solid panelled door with brass numbers and had as far as I was aware been the original door, painted white. On entering the room, we were met by the sight of a four poster bed (remember standard room) a reasonable sized room with radiator, fan and a remote controlled television and a kettle and refreshment tray with the usual Tea, Coffee, Sugar, and Biscuits. The room was spotless and well maintained and had painted walls in a subtle yellow. The bed was obviously pine and had matching bedside tables. A chest of draws, a dresser and a pine surround mirror. With two complimentary dressing gowns for your use whilst staying at the Hotel. The Bathroom was also well maintained and had the usual bathroom suite, with shower in the bath. All areas had been cleaned thoroughly and even had a band around the toilet lid stating it had been cleaned. Finishing touches were:- Bath mat rolled up and tied with a Green ribbon, a Card stating that the room had been cleaned by Chris. A lovely green leather information folder outlining all the services available and including a laundry service plus a laundry room for guests. Also had free wireless internet access.
The Leisure Facilities -------------------------------- After a long drive we decided to unpack later and to go down to the pool. We had been previously told that the pool was cleaned every Tuesday so may be cool, and that there is no life guard. However we went down to reception handed in a disclaimer stating that we acknowledged the fact that there was no life guard and picked up the key to the pool. We went down the corridor and opened the door to be met by the sight of a magnificent pool (see picture), only 8 x 4 x 1.4m, it was stunning with paintings of Italian villages and white marble pictures, the whole thing resembled an ancient Roman pool, with steps at one end descending in to the pool. At the end of the pool was the Sauna and Jacuzzi, both immaculate and well maintained. The changing rooms had a shower, toilet and six lockers, and two sinks and a wooden bench. Although the water had been changed it was not freezing and was very pleasant to swim in. It did not have high levels of Chorine in it either making the whole experience delightful.
The Restaurant and meal ------------------------------------- Taking out the Dinner, Bed and Breakfast rate, the meal was included in the stay, however certain dishes had supplements. This was the menu we had:-dttp://www.branstonhall.com/en/dloads/BH_A_la_Carte_2007.pdf (please paste in your address bar to see the menu)
I had the Rolled Terrine of Ham Hock & Corn Fed Chicken, it was very well presented and delicious. The Waiter was immaculately attired and very well trained in his trade and all the traditions followed to the letter. I was then presented with a Strawberry Sorbet, with the compliments of the Chef. I was told the Chef believed that the Sorbet would delicately take away the taste of my starter in readiness for my main meal. I was then presented with my main meal. I chose the Lamb fillet with Butternut cream and Red Wine sauce, served with Potato and Parmesan layered square and seasoned Carrots. Again very well presented and did not take for ever to be presented to the table. Followed by the Chocolate Pudding, this was simply devine and I could have had seconds and even third helpings.
At the end of the meal we retired to the lounge where we were served Coffee and 4 Chocolates, rounding off a simply delightful night. The bar was well stocked and the bar staff and indeed the Restaurant staff were very helpful and explained the choices and the Chefs recommendations.
The following morning the breakfast was just as delightful. The usual choice of Yoghurts, Cereals, Toast or a cooked breakfast, or a bit of each. Together with fruit juices, Tea or Coffee.
Checkout -------------- Checkout was just as efficient as our stay, a very polite young lady presented us with our bill together with the Bar Bill and Restaurant Bill. Of course they accepted all major credit cards.
Conclusion ----------------- The whole experience was brilliant, the value and the excellent food together with the facilities, made our stay the best hotel stay we have had in years. I can without a doubt whole heartedly recommend this delightful Hotel. Very professional staff and an excellent Chef you will not be disappointed. Finally, if you filled out their in house survey they even promised to give you a discount (of the rack rate) of your next visit...... There website is :- www.branstonhall.com
