Brasserie Black Door - worth the wait?

Advantages: Some good food
Disadvantages: Quailty inconsistent, poor presentation, poor service

the menu until the drinks arrived and when we did, we found we had been given the standard menu so we told the staff member that we had booked for the promotional menu. He told us we had come to the wrong restaurant. He said we should be at the sister restaurant, the Brasserie, and that the company had informed the Times that they should change the information in the newspaper but they hadn't. When we pointed out that we had spoken directly to the restaurant when we made our reservation and that we had not, during the course of two telephone calls with staff, been advised that we should go to the Brasserie, he simply shrugged and offered to arrange a taxi to the Brasserie at the restaurants expense. Anxious not to spoil the evening any further we agreed. When we arrived at the Brasserie the manager was expecting us, gave us glasses of fizz ...

FOOD'S NOT BAD AS LONG AS YOU EAT IT QUICKLY!

Advantages: Nice atmosphere; nice roast dinners
Disadvantages: Unpleasant staff; a little overpriced

table booked for you". With that, he disappeared to do a little detective work and it came to light that mumsy-in-law had booked the wrong eatery - apparently, we were booked in at Ciro's Brasserie for a Sunday carvery. Just as well I had gone for the 'posh' look! My initial concern was whether they would have anything suitable for Matthew, who is only four. He usually prefers his roast dinner to chicken nuggets and chips, so I hoped everything would be ok, but I would never intentionally take a young child into such a formal dining setting. ~~~FIRST IMPRESSIONS~~~ As we entered the Brasserie via the bar (which is where we had expected to be eating) I could see that it was very pleasant on the eye, and light and airy. And then we were met by, who I assume, was the restaurant manageress, who gave us a slight hint of a smile and said ...

Celebrity Chef's Restaurant

Advantages: Lovely place to eat and socialise
Disadvantages: None

House. A well deserved win. So, two weeks prior to the big day The Barbican Kitchen was chosen as the "Venue" due the fact that some members of the family had previously been there and enjoyed it and that the rest of us had always fancied giving it a try . As the food is all freshly cooked there, they would be able to do a pasta dish for my niece to fit in with her dietary requirements and in no way would this be a problem for them. The Brasserie is one of two eateries in Plymouth owned by the celebrity chef brothers James and Chris Tanner who are often seen on programmes like Ready Steady Cook on the BBC. The Brasserie is situated on the upper floor (lift access available) of the Black Friars Gin Distillery building situated within the cobbled streets of the historic Barbican, Plymouth. This is the building where the Pilgrim ...
