Buzios

Advantages: Peaceful, marvellous, relatively cheap & friendly people
Disadvantages: Amenities, transport

It is a marvellous spot, full of small beaches and very close to Rio de Janeiro city. Bridget Bardo launched it to glamour. Beatiful night with beatiful people. A must if you are visiting Rio de Janeiro city. Just 2 hours from the capital. ...

Poor Niagara!

Advantages: Stunning, dramatic - possibly the most impressive waterfalls in the world.
Disadvantages: Expensive to reach.

“Poor Niagara!” So remarked Eleanor Roosevelt upon seeing the Iguazú Falls for the first time; it is this sense of immediate and lasting awe that best defines 250+ waterfalls that together form the blanket of crashing water separating Brazil and Argentina. Second though it may be to Victoria Falls in statistics of size and volume, in more subjective terms of comparison, there can be few other natural sites with such impact and inherent raw beauty. ...
...~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Reaching the Falls ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Around two hours’ flight north of Buenos Aires and west of Rio, the Falls lie just to the south-east of the Brazil-Argentina-Paraguay border. Although technically three towns, Foz do Iguaçu, Puerto Iguazú and Ciudad del Este form one large urban sprawl around the confluence of the Parana and Iguazú rivers. Both Foz and Puerto Iguazú make good bases for seeing the Falls (or Cataratas), ...

The Big Blue

Advantages: Its like a bounty advert!
Disadvantages: Not much to do except chill - so the weather rules here

...Brazilians know this as the Ilha Grande - or Big Island. Its Brazil's largest water bound land mass and was used as a prison colony by the authorities in order to keep Marxists and other political insurgents locked away far from society, and unable to influence the masses during the country’s recent unstable past. Its small on the map, but bear in mind its sitting next to one of the biggest countries in the world. Brazil is roughly the same ...
...received. The island of Ilha Grande resembles in shape a crippled starfish, in that there are arms that stretch out from the main body at strange angles, and often these create sheltered bays of clean white sands. It really is that fantasy image of trekking through the jungle, pushing back the final Palm frond or Banana leaf, and looking out at miles and miles of ocean water and beach. Ahhhhhhh. There is a limit to the amount of people allowed ...

São Salvador da Baía de Todos os Santos

Advantages: Nicely restored tourist friendly old town
Disadvantages: The ladies hunt in packs

...north east Brazil (or São Salvador da Baía de Todos os Santos as it was named in the past) was the first colonial capital city of Brazil and, although power shifted to Rio de Janeiro in the late eighteenth century, then to Brasilia in 1960, it retains much of it's past grandeur and colonial architecture. One of the main reasons to come here, however, is the wonderful mix of cultural influences that make the cuisine, music and lifestyle here so different ...
...strong influences through Salvador's history. Salvador is also famous for it's carnival and street parties. The final stop on my extensive two-week tour of Brazil was to Salvador and the surroundings. We flew from Brasilia to Salvador Airport, taking less than two hours and checked into our hotel, Pousada do Boqoeirao, which we had booked before departure. This is an attractive Pousada or guesthouse, which was originally two colonial houses, just ...

Surf happens!

Advantages: surf
Disadvantages: none

Saquarema I agree with you is a strange name, but is a place outside of Rio de Janeiro city where mostly of the young generation go to surf because is a good place to it and the waves have good high. Apart of that there is just beautiful people when a surf competition is going on and is where some people has their holiday houses, but I cannot say is a kind of hollywoodian place. If you are going to another place called Cabo Frio or Buziosthan you ...
