Brean, Somerset

Some of you may have read my previous two reviews and realize that we have recently been on our first family holiday with our 6 month old daughter. We decided to go down to Brean in Somerset as my husband used to go there every year when he was a child. He warned me before we went that there may not be much there, though we were looking forward to it anyway.

When we arrived in Brean, although ...
...minutes from the center of Brean, you can find Brean Down. This is a lovely part to visit, though only if you don't mind walking. It is primarily made of carboniferous limestone and is owned by the national trust and is rich in wildlife, history and archaeology. You can find the old fort here, which was built in 1865 as well as what appears to be a pagan shrine. It was used as a prime defense area during the wars as well as a test area for rockets ... more

Quick review of Brean, Somerset

Stayed for a week at Unity campsite with 2 kids aged 8-6. Very good value and a very clean site. The swimming pool and nightly entertainment at the site was well above average. Brean Leisure Park was great for the kids and the all day wristband's were excellent value for money with plenty of rides for all ages. Only downside was the nearby Animal Adventure Park which I found to be very poor value for money. I would certainly go back to this area again. ...

Pontins at Brean Sands Somerset

Advantages: Great Family Entertainment
Disadvantages: Ants in the challet

Pontins at Brean Sands Somerset Holiday Camps. No longer a hi-di-hi experience with heavy tents that falls down in the midnight rainstorm, or the dirty dancing encounter where your parents assume that you love to sit huddled in the corner whilst some drab old man stands on the stage telling ridiculous and un-funny jokes that make you wish you had stayed at the bottom of the pool and never emerged. These days holiday camps have had a vast improvement and whilst I can not comment on all of them around the country, or all of this particular camp, though let me take you to Brean Sands in Somerset to the campsite of Pontins where we recently stayed for a week. ***Location : Brean, Somerset*** Brean is situated on the coast of Somerset between Burnham-on-sea and Weston Super-Mare. Brean itself is a very quaint and quiet village ...

PONTINS BREAN SANDS, SOMERSET

Advantages: close to beach and amusements
Disadvantages: everything else, cheap, shabby, poor

We stayed at Pontins Brean Sands near Burnham on Sea in Somerset in October 2007. We booked this through The Sun Newspaper holiday scheme, so it cost us £38 for 3 nights and a further £12 for entertainment passes. We decided to take our own bed linen to save another £6. Electricity was thrown in free as part of the deal. This would have cost us around £70 by booking direct with Pontins through the internet, for a weekend in October. We have stayed on these Sun weekends several times and we expect a basic chalet, but there is basic and then there is Pontins idea of basic! This review is my opinion of the Brean Sands holiday park based on the 2 nights that we stayed there. (We went home early as we could not stand it any longer!). The review feels like a bit of a moan at times, but I really can't think of anything else nice to ...

Brean-somerset

Advantages: Something for everyone
Disadvantages: Gets booked up early

Brean is a lovely place to visit for a holiday,it is a few miles past Weston-Super-Mare but close enough to visit for the day and also is close to the village of Burnham-on-Sea which now has a lovely weatherspoons. Brean is just one long road full of caravan parks and also has a leisure park full of rides an indoor and outdoor swimming pool with giant slides, also amusment arcades and a quasar game. There are some lovely pubs in Brean all having entertainment 7 nights a week in main season for adults and children most of them providing full menus throughout the day.The seagull is a very nice pub with a seperate eating area if required and provides good childrens entertainment and later on the adults cabaret. Brean has a lovely stretch of beach which is dog friendly and has horse riding available and a lot of the caravan parks have ...
