If you are gong on holiday to this hotel I would advise you to change your booking if possible, after we looked in the Thomson Faraway Shores brochure we decided to descend on the Breezes for a number of reasons, such as the value for money, the All Inclusive package, and also having two succesful holidays in the Dominican Reopublic we decided to return, and also the pictures in the brochure make the hotel look like some sort of palace, well believe me its not, i would describe the 'hotel' as being more like a cheap hostel. There is no possible way that this hotel is a 4* as printed in the Thomson brochure, there was also talk whilst we were there that the hotel had been downgraded to a 3*, it doesnt even deserve that! I dont no were to start.
Food - Was very poor, for breakfast, lunch and dinner, there was hardly any choice and also what was left out for hours on end was re-used the next day until it had all gone and then only replaced by the same thing. Waiter service is also very poor, you can search for a table for a while and still not get one and then when you finally do you sit there for at least ten minutes until they take the previous persons dishes away and then leave you with a half set table. Also each evening there was a different them night, such as North American, Domincan, European, Italian and Chinease. Dont get excited by these as we did because when we looked at the selection available we could not even see a dish that resembled the supposed 'them' night. The speciality restuarants that are available are ok but the booking system for these is a shambles, upon arrival you are given a number of tickets depending on the length of your stay, however if you have two rooms be prepared to eat at toally different times. The times available are 18:30, 20:00 and 21:30, normally the ticket is the 21:30 sitting. The speciality restuarants that are available are the French 'Paris' where the food actually is ok but the waiter staff's attitude is appauling. The Dominican 'Conuco' we didnt even chance it in there. The Italian cant remember the name but the food was actually quite nice there. and also the Japonease 'Munasan' which we also enjoyed, they cook your food in front of you, made it a nice touch. And finally 'El Marlin' the seafood and steaks restuarant, this was actually the poolside bar where people eat in the daytime but to change it into a restaurant they stook tablecloths over the tables, Food we found was poor here and the look of the kitchen made it even worse. Throughout the two week stay we all had dodgy stomachs as did a number of other guests.
Rooms - Very basic, very old as well. This hotel is in desperate need of a refurbishment. When we first arrived we were placed directly above the amphitheatre which we did not mind as the shows finish at 10:30 anyway, however we wanted a better sea view so we moved. If the staff say the hotel is full well they are lying as the hotel is never totally full there is always a room available somewhere, you are best doing it through your rep as the reception staff are the possibly the rudest people i have ever come across. The bathroom was old and shabby as well, the bath had stains in it and also the taps had rust on. We also found numerous cockoroaches in the room and when we phoned reception to tell them of this matter we were told'yeh whatever'. Typical attitude of Breezes staff. I would never stay in a room of that standard ever again in my life.
General Hotel Grounds - These were the positive things i found about this hotel. They are well kept and clean however on numerous times throughout the day there is a horrible smell floating around by the poolside. The pool is clean and big but very npisy throughout the day as the daytime entertainment is done by the pool. We found it better to go to the beach as it was quiet and also there was a slight breeze.
Entertainment - The worst we have ever seen! very poor!. The daytime entertainment was bad enough but the night time is something else. if you want to watch some one dancing every night doing the same dance just to a different song then this is the place for you, However not for us, we were bored very easy in the night time and often was in bed by 10.30 due to the boredom. Entertainment here was a proper let down!
Overall this was a poor holiday especially with the amount of money Thomson charge for coming to this property, Staff are ignorant and rude and also the general Breezes holiday experience was appauling, i will never return to a Breezes hotel again or one of their partners after this experience. As i have said this was my third time to the Dominican republic and it has put me off completely, however i did enjoy my two other holidays here at the Occidental Allegro Punta cana (Carribbean village) Bavaro, and also the Clubhotel Riu Bachata (Puerto Plata/bahia De Maimon).
