Two old mills stand right next to the Corrib River, just off Dominick Street. The mills have not been in operation for many years and previously lay derelict for some time. In 1988 however, a local businessman restored the old stonework and preserved what was left of the working mechanisms in the mill. These mechanisms can be seen slowly turning in the restaurant today. The menu includes hearty breakfasts and delectable lunches. On a warm summer's day there is seating outside overlooking the turbulent Corrib river.
Advantages: Lots of pubs and restaurants. Disadvantages: It's just another small town - and dodgy accounting.
...I've just come home from a two week holiday touring around the West of Ireland - Clare, Mayo and Galway - spending a night or two in B&Bs all over, with the last few spent in Galway.
We wanted to see Galway as it has a good repuation for being a lively and lovely city, but after having seen all the natural beauty that the region has to offer, the city was a bit of a let down.
If you're after somewhere to enjoy the pubs, restaurants and nightlife then you are spoilt for choice and sure to find something to your taste. The main shopping streets through the city are heaving with people at all hours so make sure you book early for a table in a restaurant. (Check your bill carefully as well. Both restaurants we ate in during our two days had the bill wrong, with items we hadn't ordered appearing on them).
Whatever you do, don't go...

Advantages: Great atmosphere, beautiful scenery, plenty to see and do! Disadvantages: Umm... nope can't help you there!
...With its multicoloured facades, bohemian taverns and generally laid-back ambience, I was hooked on Galway right from the start. Prettier than Cork, livelier than Killarney and more relaxed than Dublin, this is definitely the town I felt most at home in during my husband Dave’s and my recent trip to Ireland.
Galway City (or Gaillihm) is described by Lonely Planet (Europe on a Shoestring, 1st edition, March 1999) as “a pleasure, with its old stone and wooden shop-fronts, good restaurants and busy music pubs bustling with students”. I wholeheartedly agree – it was a rare treat to actually come across a town that seemed to suit my personality almost perfectly.
So on to the review…

Advantages: Elegant, beautiful food, great leisure, beauty, relaxing, staff, free parking Disadvantages: disabled restricted, no grab handles in rooms, well out of galway
.... This seemed very popular with all the residents. However whilst in the ground reception area we did negotiate some difficulty using the disabled toilet as it is a little compact and of course requires negotiating the lifts from both the bar and restaurant for wheelchair access.
In conclusion if you want a restful break in Galway area I believe the Ardilaun would provide admirably for your needs in a graceful and pleasant way. I would have no hesitation in returning and have recommended it to friends. I would also recommend it to those with restricted mobility who can work with the quirkiness of the old tyme hotel parts of it. It is essentially a down to earth yet quality hotel. Not the place to go if you are on a diet however, as I found my waistline expanded....

Alter Bridge's first album, the phenomenal 'One Day Remains', will go down in history as one of my favourite debut albums. The extremely bold mix of beautiful, heart felt lyrics and fabulous, hard hitting drum beats with screeching guitar riffs really... more
