Advantages: Free admission, accesible for disabled visitors Disadvantages: Only a few machines
Officially known as the Mechanical Memories Museum this is a small museum that enjoys a location right on Brighton's seafront. It is located in an area known as "The Arches" which stretches either side of the pier and the museum lies just to the west of the pier, but very close to it, maybe less than 100 metres away. The Arches is the name given to the area that occupies the space below the promenade at beach level. Since the promenade is raised ... ...to the existence of The Mechanical Memories Museum; otherwise I would have certainly missed it. I was intrigued by the sign that proclaimed that this was “an old fashioned penny arcade” and to grab my attention further it was apparently "as seen on TV". Admission to the museum is completely free but best of all the exhibits inside are actual working machines. Each of these machines has been lovingly restored by a dedicated group of volunteers and ...

Volks Electric Railway has been operated by Brighton and Hove District Council since the 1960's but there is also a dedicated group of enthusiasts known as VERA (Volks Electric Railway Association) that renovate the carriages and help out with the general day to day running of the line. I enjoyed my trip on this train, it certainly has a bit of novelty value that makes you want to give it a try so if you are ever in Brighton ...
Advantages: Great variety of entertainment on offer. Generally cheaper prices than larger venues Disadvantages: The length of the trek to the loos! Not the most comfortable seating
The Old Market Hove is a place which is difficult to label! It’s an historical building of some note, a theatre, a cultural centre, a venue for private hire catering for all sorts of events including weddings and civil partnerships, a recording studio, home to the celebrated Hanover Band and a base for Springboard, a competitive performing arts festival for young people. In fact it is a wonderful and invaluable community resource just a stone’s throw ... ...just on the Brighton border. ~~~BRUNSWICK TOWN~~~
The area now known as Brunswick is, for me, one of the most fascinating areas of Hove. Brunswick Town was largely the brainchild of the Reverend Thomas Scutt whose family owned much of the land upon which it was built and Charles Augustin Busby, a talented architect who was responsible for designing much of the Regency architecture of Brighton and Hove. It was developed between 1824 and 1840 as a ...
Advantages: A Truly Historic Event. Fascinating Veteran cars. Low Speed Thrills and Spills! Disadvantages: Weather Can Be Awful. Brighton Sea Front Very Crowded.
...on the calendar is the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. Brighton has links with the dawning of the motorcar that may well not be widely known. An example of this is the National Speed Trials, held on the sea front on the first Saturday of September each year. This event has taken place since 1905, the year that the Brighton and Hove Motor Club (the oldest motor club in the country) was founded.
However, even that illustrious motoring event pales ... ...the word "Run" - the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is not, and never has been, a race!
WHAT WAS THE FIRST RUN IN AID OF?
Well, strictly speaking, it was a celebration of the liberation of the motorist from a series of restrictive rules governing the use of their horseless carriages. The most famous of these was the regulation stating that a man carrying a red flag had to walk in front of a motor vehicle in order to warn all other road users ...
Advantages: Large Place, Some Interesting Characteristics Disadvantages: Very Poorly Maintained Toilets
...enjoyed a pint in the King & Queen Pub in Brighton having been enticed there by its black and white timber structure and medieval design.
Having settled down in the Beer Garden however and reading about the history of this place from a plaque that hangs on the wall there, I did feel somewhat cheated to discover that this building was only actually constructed between 1931-32. I have always had a bit of a fascination with old Pubs and from the outer ... ...sculpture inside the Pub of King Henry V111 and one of his Wives but this is where the deception begins. One could quite easily be fooled at this point into believing that this is the basis on which the name of this Public House is derived. The truth is however that the true origin of the name belongs to a later King and Queen, King George 111 and his wife Charlotte, who are depicted on the sign that hangs outside.
The deception of this place is ...
