Brighton Rocks in The Lanes
Review of Thistle Hotel, Brighton by jude76

Advantages: great location, friendly & knowledgable
Disadvantages: car parking & breakfast!!

...work. We choose the Thistle due to cost and availability really - many of the hotels on the travel website we use were fully booked or looked in need of paint and repair. This was advertised as being close to The Lanes and numerous restaurants as well as being sea front based. LOCATION The Thistle is a glass fronted, modern looking hotel, situated approx 200 yards from Brighton Pier, directly on the seafront. I say modern looking, because most ...
...so the Thistle stood out somewhat!!! Directly behind this hotel is The Lanes and various restaurants - so it really is close to all amenities as advertised. ARRIVAL Finding the hotel was easy, parking was not!!! The car park the hotel uses is not signposted well - in fact, it has signs all over stating this is not for use by hotel guests!! However, that said, there is parking available directly under the hotel - charged at £15 per 24 hour period ... Read review

Faultless
Review of The De Vere Grand, Brighton by scribbelle

Advantages: Just beautiful
Disadvantages: none

...I booked a night at the Grand for £165 for this we got an evening meal, bed and breakfast. It was slightly out of season, October so the hotel was nowhere near full, think high season would be much dearer. We were delighted to discover that we had been put into a room with a sea view, we really weren't expecting that, as we hadn't specifically ordered one, to be honest we imagined that we may be in the "boiler room bowels", we wouldn't have minded ...
...unexpected bonus. The room was small, but beautiflly decorated, very tasteful, olde worlde style, but obviously brand new and in perfect condition. The room was air conditioned, and also had a ceiling fan. The ensuite bathroom was something else! It had a mirror with lights all around it, a bath and power shower, sumptous robes for our use, about £20 worth of L'occitane toiletries. The bedroom also had a free wireless internet point..so I could ... Read review

Three nights in the Ramada Jarvis!
Review of Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Brighton by thebigc1690

Advantages: The whole experience was an advantage.
Disadvantages: -

...of my fiancé was the Ramada Jarvis hotel in Brighton, I have never stayed in a hotel in Brighton before having only visited once previously and having stayed in a bed and breakfast so I cannot compare it to other hotels in the Brighton area but I can compare it to other hotels throughout Britain and indeed Europe as I am fairly well travelled. The first thing of note with this hotel is that it has a modern look without losing any grandeur, I often ...
...Ramada Jarvis was every bit as attractive as the old prestigious hotels dotted around it but with a real up to date look and indeed feel to it. It is situated in a very nice location, very close to the many winding lanes and pathways that are simply alive with beautiful boutiques and equally close to the famous pebble beach where if weather permits as it did for us you can spend a very leisurely afternoon. The hotel has 123 rooms in total all of ... Read review

Go to the Grand
Review of Hilton Brighton Metropole, Brighton by scribbelle

Advantages: None that I saw
Disadvantages: where do I start?

I'm probably being a bit naughty comparing this hotel with the De Vere Grand ( the hotel next door), but after spending a fabulous night costing £165 for evening meal ,bed, and breakfast, which included a room with a sea view, a proper menu to chose from for the evening meal, luxury toiletries in the luxury bathroom, excellent service etc, etc, we stupidly didn't go back there, we decided to give the Metropole a try instead....WHY, oh WHY? We opted ...
...little cheaper, but I can honestly say you got at least £100 better service from the Grand. Right forget the Grand, forget the beautiful three course meal served at the table, the free wireless internet access, and let's talk about the Met. First impressions good, receptionist nice and helpful, got key for room, opened the door to a boiling hot room, facing the back of the hotel looking out onto the loading bay and bins. There was an air conditioning ... Read review

Ainsley House Hotel
Review of Ainsley House Hotel, Brighton by SReilly

Advantages: Location & friendly/helpful chef.
Disadvantages: That some people are allowed to be let loose on the hotel industry.

I stayed here recently and was made to feel so unwelcome and uncomfortable. I was very polite to the manager at all times but I was spoken to like a child, she was very patronising. I've never known anything like it, it was actually almost funny. We were made to feel as if we were staying in a private house, not a public B&B and that we had overstayed our welcome as soon as we arrived. The manager was even rude to me when I made the booking over ...
...to make the booking as I was part of a large group also staying there. It was also very grotty and unclean - there was a dirty towel in the corridoor and drinks bottles on the front steps, which were not cleared away during my 3 day stay! Even the morning paper in the lounge was 2 months old! Apart from the location, the only good thing about this hotel is the guy who cooked and served the breakfasts, he was lovely and very helpful - poor man having ... Read review
