The Royal Albion Hotel, Brighton

Advantages: great location, cheap, nice rooms, excellent food
Disadvantages: no parking, quite dated

Introduction to the hotel: The Royal Albion Hotel was built in 1826 and is situated in a fantastic location opposite Brighton pier. It is a three star hotel and has 186 guest rooms offering views of Brighton beach or the town centre. My experience of the hotel: I spent one night in the hotel in January of this year and for a three star hotel I was quite impressed. I and my girlfriend booked a double room for £55 and it was a spacious room with ...
...number of reviews about the Royal Albion and some have been not to complentary about it, complaing the décor was very dated and their stay was quite unpleasant. I however disagree with these views and thought the hotel to be perfectly adequate for a stay in Brighton. The location was excellent, the room nice and the food on offer was splendid. I would certainly recommend it and will be staying there again on my next trip to the south coast. The only ...

Centrally based, reasonably priced hotel

Advantages: Near to all facilities, shopping, clubs, seafront etc
Disadvantages: Can be noisy at weekends

Near to the sea front, to a wide range of restaurants and all the key shopping facilities in Brighton. It is also near many of the clubs, very near to the main conference and exhibition centre and is next to the cinema. Very reasonable prices for Brighton and good size rooms which are clean but basic. Fairly good accessible rooms for disabled people including adjustable wardrobes, though you would need to check for your own specific requirements. ...
...and thel reception staff are very helfpul, especially if you are new to Brighton or on your own. The hotel is on a busy road which is good for taxis and buses, but this means that at weekends, some rooms can be rather noisy, and one moring I was woken up with bottles being smashed in a refuse collection. The other distraction are the seagulls which are very active at certain times of the year but I found this a great change from city life! ...

Family-fun, friendly and easy going

Advantages: Right by the sea
Disadvantages: Not in the heart of Brighton

The Princes Marine Hotel is a 4 star hotel situated on the coastal road from Brighton to Hove. It is a newly built hotel (only a few years old) and I had the fortune to be invited to dine there in the in-house restaurant a few years ago. The food was delicious and plentiful, following traditional English recipes. The service was excellent and the bar next door that we ajourned to afterwards stocks one of the largest selections of spirits I have seen ...

New Steine Hotel

Advantages: Good location, small and friendly
Disadvantages: Poor decor and furnishings for the price of the rooms

The New Steine Hotel is in a good location, very close to the sea front and close by to the shops and bars, however, when you look at the website you imagine the hotel to be of a higher standard than it actually is!! Rooms/lounge etc. Our ''Deluxe Double with a Sea View' was 2 matresses pushed together with a hard ply wood head board stuck to the wall. No lamp on one side of the bed and the sea view was only visible if you put your head outside of ...
...it was fixed in one position and not visible from one side of the bed. Although it was clean and the people were very helpful and friendly we did expect more for £230 for 2 nights. Have to say the breakfast was ok though. Maybe I am out of touch with the prices of Hotels but I have stayed in hotels of a much higher standard from less money in the past!! Guess thats the city for you! ...

Don't believe all the hype

Advantages: Great location
Disadvantages: Not worthy of 4 stars

The Alvia is a small guest house in Brighton that describes itself as a boutique style hotel but don't be fooled by this promotional blurb. That's not to say that there is anything drastically wrong with this place so long as you are not expecting anything more than a standard seaside B&B. It is graded as a 4 star guest house by the Tourist Board and has won numerous awards over the years. However please note that this place has recently changed ...
...that attracted me to the Alvia is that it offers parking spaces. Parking is notoriously difficult and expensive in Brighton but this place has room for about six cars at an additional fee of £10 per day. One thing that you need to be aware of however is that if you park here you will not be able to use your car at all during your stay since the proprietors don't live here and your car will be locked in. This wasn't a problem for me and it was explained ...
