I recently spent a day in Brighton after visiting relatives who live down that way. The 17th century lanes were a real experience. Located slightly back from the seafront, the lanes are the oldest area in Brighton and Hove and used to be a medieval fishing village. Today, the narrow lanes are made up of many quirky little shops, selling antiques, jewellery and designer labels. There are many great shops just waiting to be discovered and numerous places to eat and drink. I thought it made a nice change to the usual high street shops and large shopping malls, although I didn't buy anything because most of the items were rather expensive.
As anybody who has been to Brighton before will know, parking is a real problem. We parked by the seafront on the road which leads to the marina. Here you can park for as long as you want and it won't cost you an arm and a leg, unlike many of the car parks in the town centre.
Advantages: Only one hour from London, great vibes, good bargains Disadvantages: None!! Lots of fun for everyone..
The Lanes of Brighton are one of the best places in England for the coolest gear and best vibes.
If you arrive via train from London, the Lanes are just down Queen Street towards the beach, and to the left. There are stores to cater to every taste, including mens and womens clothes, jewellrey, sunglasses, belts, funky art / craft places, bead shops and much much more... the selection is huge, and the ideas are much more exciting than the high street ... ...is the Brighton Bead Shop (Sydney St). It has a wonderful range of all beads, and includes all the materials you need to make you own designs, starter kits for beginners, helpful and informative staff and all at really good prices. I head straight there as soon as get into Brighton.
In addition to all the cool shops, there is a number of pubs and cafes scattered throughout the Lanes that will cater to all tastes.
Definately recommend this site ...

Advantages: Great if your looking for something different Disadvantages: None
We decided to fit Brighton into our plans of spending a week travelling from Scotland down the east coast and back up the west of England, so Brighton seemed like a good place to visit for a couple of days since we have a friend who has moved there.
Our Friend took us to Brighton Lanes and we were surprised at how quaint it is. It must be very old as it almost makes you feel like you have gone back in time!
The lanes lead around the town centre ... ...hours browsing their wares. Although we could have spent longer.
It is an ideal place for gifts as you are sure to purchase something out of the ordinary.
We were very impressed with Brighton and the lanes and intend to fly down next time to investigate further!! ...

Advantages: Too many...London by the sea...cosmopolitan, diverse, shopping! Food! Disadvantages: Can be dirty - very busy in summer with exchange students under your feet.
Having lived in Brighton for several years I can honestly say I would rather walk around the lanes on a day off work than anywhere else in the world - its just fabulous :D The small winding allys are a real curiosity shop extravaganza - jewellery shops, gifts, clothing, shoes, restaurants, dog parlours, hand made chocolates, bespoke perfumes - you name it - its amazing! Every time I have moved away and returned to Brighton something has changed and ... ...you have never been to Brighton then you are really missing out on the 9th wonder of the world :) Its the most diverse and exciting town i the world! Whether your taking your Nan for a seaside stroll or booking a dirty weekend with the mistress you will adore Brightons Lanes. Advantages: Funky, individual, prices to suit all pockets Disadvantages: Parking is terrible
We had decided on a 3 seater leather sofa and some accessories. My 3 year old daughter Hannah had come with me. The store manager, Charlotte Waring, very kindly gave Hannah some soft toys to keep her amused while I signed the paperwork. Everything is run very efficiently here and the sofa would be delivered 3 weeks hence. Well, you guessed it, the sofa didn't arrive on the allocated date. Miss Waring apologised profusely and three days later, we ...

Advantages: great location, cheap, nice rooms, excellent food Disadvantages: no parking, quite dated
of us which was a bit cheeky.
The ideal location of the hotel meant we could nip out into Brighton town centre whenever we wanted to do a spot of shopping in the famous 'Brightonlanes' or to grab a bite to eat from one of the many restaurants scattered about. We had not paid for dinner at the hotel and so ate at a restaurant called Fat Leo's in the evening which offered good Italian food for a decent price. After dinner we returned to the hotel at about half past nine and had a few drinks in the hotels Pavilion Bar which offered a wide range of drinks at a reasonable price.
The next morning we woke up early and went down for breakfast in Jenny's Restaurant, a full English breakfast was available and a number of different fruit juices including tea and coffee. The breakfast was lovely and the hotel staff bright and cheery, delivering ...

*~* Seeing as there are so few opinions in the Brighton-restaurants category, im going to post and try to attract people to Brighton, as its a lovely place, honest!
*~* Piccolos is located in the south lanes (56 Ship street to be exact). Near the restaurant bit in brighton and the seafont, easily accessible from brighton station. It has two floors, but gets very busy, as do all Brightons restaurants, so its worth booking. Downstairs are smaller tables, and upstairs is where they seat all the parties. They say parties are welcome, and have many Hen nights, and others there.
*~* I went there once for a surprise birthday party, so we were seated upstairs. However, i have sat downstairs many-a-time, and i maintain that the service is better down there. We had waitors, who got a bit arsey with us...im not saying i blame them, it must be ...

Advantages: lovely food Disadvantages: sometimes very crowded
Food for friends is a well established, succesfull, and all round yummy restaurant in Brighton. Its located at 17-18 Prince Albert Street, which is in the south lanes. Its within walkable distance of Brighton Station, and at the other end, the seafront.
The food is lovely, vegetarian and there is a wide selection to chose from. The best item on the menu, is a taster plate, which allows you to choose a bit from a few different dishes. That is good if you are unsure about vegetarian food, or if you cant make up your mind as to what to choose!
It opperates a buffet style of serving, this is a good point to it. Its vegan friendly, which is also a plus, and the staff are friendly. However, the downside is that sometimes its difficult to find seatings, however, this situation has improved, and there are more tables now than before ...
