Two and a half days in Brighton and I still haven’t had enough, the weekend just flew. A few friends and I drove to seaside Brighton this weekend to soak up everything Brighton had to offer. There was Tony, Sharon and myself, my friend Tony owns a flat in Brighton and so he’s always going down they’re to spend the odd weekend, and so he asked us to come with him. We left London around 8.00pm and got to Brighton by about 10.30pm
From the moment we arrived we parked up the car left our belongings in the flat and ventured out into the streets of Brighton. This was not my first visit nor was it Tony’s or Sharon’s and so we all knew our way around Brighton pretty well. The first thing we did was to head for a classy restaurant – we decided to go for Greek food and so we went to Parthenon Restaurant. This small Greek restaurant, which serves traditional Greek dishes, has been around for years. This place serves delicious food and from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave you are made to feel welcome.
Now that I’m on the subject of food and restaurants, Brighton
not only do Greek food but you have cuisine dishes from all over the world, there is something for every gourmet. There are café’s and restaurants all over Brighton and if that doesn’t take your fancy you can always buy yourself a portion of fish and chips on the seafront. The meal came up to £20.00 per person and that included starters, the main meal and a bottle of wine.
Our next stop was to hit a trendypub so we went back to the flat to get all tarted up whilst Tony made a few calls on his mobile to arrange to meet a good mate of his at the place we were planning to go. Brighton has a thriving nightlife, there are pubs, bars, and wine bars everywhere, ranging from small Victorian style pubs to large modern pubs, there is a pub for every taste. We arranged to meet Tony’s friend at a pub called Harbour View – when we arrived he was there waiting, it was a lively atmosphere, it was jam-packed with people and the music was thumping out the speakers – it’s what Brighton is all about everyone enjoying themselves and having FUN - We had a few drinks and then went to another pub called Dave and Sue’s Bar – although a different style of pub the atmosphere was just as lively as Harbour View, lots of drinking and dancing going on, lots of people socializing. We hit a few more pubs after that but by this time my vision was blurred and could not take in all the names. That is when I knew it was time for me to call it a night.
The morning after was a hangover and I woke up with a splitting headache - went straight for two paracetamols and mug of coffee- a lethal combination I know but it`s the only thing that works for me. Saturday was a bright and sunny day and so a walk by the seafront was a must – out came the shades as we all went for a stroll. Brighton’s pebbled beach is not exactly the Costa Brava but a stroll along the promenade is something everyone enjoys when they visit Brighton. You can take a nice walk out to sea on the Palace Pier as you take in the fresh air and absorb your surroundings. Wasn’t up for the rides but if you like all of that then you can experience some brilliant rides on the actual pier itself.
Along the promenade you have lots of café’s and small shops – We stopped in a café to have a bite to eat, took a few snaps of Tony messing about and then we strolled further along the promenade where there is a place called Artists Quarter. They sell paintings, picture frames and some bargain mirrors. I always visit this place when I go to Brighton, I have found some good bargains here in the passed and I’m also a lover of unusual paintings.
If you like shopping then ChurchillSquare located in the city centre of Brighton is a big indoor shopping mall that houses most of your common chain stores – Marks & Spencer’s – Debenhams – Virgin – Boots Chemist – Gap etc …… Although you have your main high street shops Brighton offers some unusual antique and trendy shops that sell some weird and wonderful things.
The laines is another of Brighton’s popular shopping areas – the roads are narrow and cobbled – the laines are divided into north and south. The south is mainly restaurants and the north is shops. Exotic stuff is sold in the north laine. Sharon and I had a field day shopping in the laines – we wanted to buy everything, there is much nice stuff to buy. It is a nice relaxing atmosphere and there are also small pubs/cafes in the laines that you can pause have a coffee and then resume your shopping again.
Saturday night was a blast – we had a meal then we went to this place called the The Burlington. This was one of Tony’s hang out dens whenever he would visit Brighton. It was a good place to start the night before heading to a nightclub. A lively and highly charged atmosphere with DJ`s playing some good music tunes. I have been to crowded pubs in London but I have never experienced anything like this before. There were people everywhere and to get a drink was impossible – poor Tony he had to push his way through the crowds just to get to the bar, bless him. We stayed there for about two hours and then headed off to a nightclub. We ended up going to The Zap Club – danced to techno and garage until the early hours of the morning. A smashing night out.
Bottom line: ************** Nobody can say that Brighton is a dull and boring place – on the contrary it is an exciting and lively place that not only is it a magnet with domestic tourism but also worldwide tourism. Brighton is one of those places that has something for everyone – Whether your into shopping, clubbing, water sports, history & heritage or if you just want a relaxing time by the sea with the family and kids then Brighton can offer you this an more. It is a laid back and relaxing place – the people are friendly and there is so much to do. This is not my first visit to Brighton nor will it be my last – I plan to return……… :O)
