I have spent a week backpacking in England and for one day I have stopped in Brighton. I traveled by train from London Victoria Station in the morning at around 9:00am on March 5th and than returned to London Victoria Station at around 06:00am on March 6th. I wrote a little something about what I think of Brighton and what my experiences were there.
1.) Transport In general getting from London to Brighton is easy. Why? Because there are frequent trains going there and back several times a day. I have spent around 40 pounds altogether for the train tickets. The train station closes at around two am and than opens at a quarter to five am. If you plan to use the buses more frequently, than I recommend you to get a universal ticket that you can use all day. It costs 3 pounds - it is 0,50 pound cheaper than the one in London :) The buses are all typical English. The drivers I have come accross were all friendly. 2.) Information I did not plan at all to go to Brighton, but when the opportunity came up I grabbed it right away. So I went there knowing very little about it. Getting information from people on the station was very useful. They even gave me some brochures and maps of the city for free. Such information stalls can be found easily. The clerks are very helpful too. 3.) People All the people were friendly and very willing to help. Now as always there was an exception: people in Cafe R**** were all unpleasant and arrogant, including the costumers. But my general impression is very much positive. I definitely did not expect people coming up trying to help on their own. Like I said very friendly. At first hey seem very reserved though. 4.) Sightseeing - The Royal Pavilion If you have a chance go and check it out. It is absolutely gorgeous! I would never expect to find such an Indian looking palace in the middle of Brighton. - Brighton pier I have spent quite some time on the pier. There is a large funfair, lots of restaurants and lots of arcade halls - there is some serious gaming going on, it's like you are in a different world ( very addictive, I lost more than won). There is also the West pier but I haven't been on it. - the seaside Who doesn't like the seaside? It is beautiful and there is numerous of sites from where you can just watch the sea (English Channel) - churches These are the three worth seeing in my opinion: St. Nicholas Church, St. Bartholomew's Church and Church of St. Peter 5.) Nightlife I went to Audio Club, which is very close to Brighton pier and I loved it. Great music, great location and great staff. 6.) Weather Wind like I have never experienced in my entire life!!! Seriously! It blew away my cap. 7.) Food Chocolate muffins? Never again!!! Chips? Good Coffee? I am seriously addicted to coffee, but there really wasn't any that would stick in my memoryTo sum up, I had an amazing time in Brighton and hopefully I'll go there again. Wouldn't say it's my favorit city in the world, but I love it.
