I have just finished my first year of Brighton Uni and thought I would give you all a upto date review of the University and its Halls... I came to Brighton because I loved the place, I came for a weekend away with my mates about a year before deciding to go to Uni and I absolutely loved it, I couldn't see myself being anywhere else and from that moment on I decided I would go to Brighton regardless of what the Uni was like (that's love for you). Why did I like it so much? The colour, the people, the individuality, the bohemian vibe, the clubs and the beach! I could go on forever. But being from the North I had not seen anything like the South, and Brighton truely is the creme de la creme. I visited the Uni open day and really was not impressed with the presentation I saw, I couldn't help but compare it to one I had seen a couple of weeks earlier for the same course, different Uni. I accepted my place to Brighton anyway and was thoroughly excited to be moving there after summer! This is when I found out what halls I would be living in. I'm pretty fussy, I wanted a en-suite room (so I didn't have to share with boys) and I wanted to live in Phoenix Halls. In fact Phoenix Halls were the only halls I wanted to be in, this is because I would be studying in town and I wanted my halls to be really near. Instead I was placed in Varley, at first I was really upset it seemed so far away (can be 30mins on the bus). When i'd moved in I was even more upset- no cashpoint within walking distance, couldn't pay by card at the student bar and there was no shop on site! Once I had settled in I really had no complaints- I made wicked mates (everyone on campus really do know each other) and I lived in Brighton. Yeah it was a mission to get to Uni, but once I was in town I was more determined to stay in town so we'd either chill on the beach, sit in pubs or walk around the lanes and North laines. I had a wicked first year, whatever halls you end up at you will love. Most people in Brighton are open minded and individual and this is what makes it such a special place. I've definately changed for the better. Next term I move into a amazing house with amazing people- life couldn't be better.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
Sorry for the rating but this category is for reviews about Brighton in general - there are separate categories for universities. If you drop Ciao an email they should be able to move it for you. I'll be happy to reread/rerate as appropriate once it's in the right place :)
