Advantages: The opportunity to feed dolphins in the wild Disadvantages: hard to get there
Moreton Island is situated 35km away from Brisbane. The island is 98% National Parks which is very obvious when you are exploring the island as there isn't a lot of shops or houses. In my opinion its like a mini paradise with its sparkling clear water and unspoilt beaches. HOW TO GET THERE You can get there by ferry which operates 6 days a week and you can take your vehicle if you wanted to. This is how we got there and we chose to do a day tour ......had commentary en route to Moreton Island telling you about the different things we passed on the boat. We had 8 hours in the resort to do whatever we wanted. This meant if you chose to do any extra tours it was at your own cost. Participation in the Dolphin Feeding Programme was included and straight after you fed the dolphins at roughly 7pm you got back onto the ferry to go back to Brisbane. As we were coming home on what they called the late launch ... Read review

I went to Lone Pine Koala Sancutary March this year and volunteered there for a month with the animals and LOVED it, it was a great experience!!!!!!! I LOVED working with the koalas it was a dream come true!!!!!!!!! One of my highlights was holding a koala, its a great place to get hands on experience with koalas and kangaroos!!!!!! You can feed the kangaroos in the Kangaroo Reserve. The Keepers at Lone Pine are really nice!!!!!! I'd definitely reccommend ... Read review
Advantages: A nice and relaxed time. Disadvantages: Cost
North Stradbroke Island, or Straddie as my sister and her family call it, is approximately an hour and a half from the city of Brisbane and, it will take you 35 to 45 minutes depending on traffic to reach the ferry terminal in Cleveland. The island is situated in Moreton Bay and is accessed by ferry if you are taking your car across or by the quicker water taxi for foot passengers. The cost when I went across for 2 children and 2 adults by water ......it's only another £10.00 (Aus $25.00) inclusive of passengers to take your car across. The island as a regular bus service, which meets the water taxi at the drop off point, but be aware, when I visited the island in January 2006, (Australia's summertime) the bus was packed solid with visitors, and I had to stand for well over 30 minutes in 38 degree heat, not very pleasant, until we reached the stop where we were getting off. On reflection, I would ... Read review

...to Brisbane !. The beautiful South Bank Parklands can be a full day out on its own. The amazing man made swimming oasis (a massive main pool and a smaller one just for kids) complete with its own beach (and life guards) sits almost smack in the middle of the city and overlooks the busy river.Behind you are a great selection of gift shops / bars / cafe's and in front are the 'City Cats' (an affordable catamaran service which takes you all over the ......night lights dazzle!). A large outdoor amphitheatre / Brisbanes Arena building where major international acts regularily appear / fountains / and twice weekly street markets are just a few of the reasons to visit. The juice bar has the best 'smoothies' on the planet, and great value is the restaraunt situated behind 'the hunky' life guards where enormous 'sangers' can keep you going all day !(and you can even bring your own food and use the complimentary ... Advantages: full of koalas! Disadvantages: difficult location
...decided to go to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary as it focused pretty much solely on koalas and their cousins, and I had heard that it was a great centre that had good hands-on experiences. It was a bit of a struggle to work out how to get there without a car, but once we worked out what buses we needed, we headed over to the sanctuary. A nice surprise was that although a popular destination, it wasnt over-crowded with tourbuses like a lot of attractions ......day, about the different animals they house. If you like koalas, you'll love this place- there is LOADS of them! and they are sectioned into babies, mummys and grumpy old men koalas, which was unusual. The highlight of everyones visit is of course the opportunity to hold one of the koalas and have your picture taken. For just 15 AUS dollars I got to hold 'diesel'- I had to stay very still so as to fool him into thinking I was just another eucalyptus ... Read review
