Not as good as expected
Advantages: Clean and friendly Disadvantages: Really busy
So many people had told us about this hostel saying it was fantastic, particularly people who we knew who had travelled Australia about ten years ago so we weren't sure what to expect.
We werent staying for too long so for the first time we decided to do a 4 bed dorm.
It was clean, but basic, every night the other two people in the room changed and we had new room mates. We were all completely different but it was interesting to meet different ... ...had a bit of surprise when he walked in on a girl getting dressed, why she didnt get dressed in her room i dont know but anyway. The facilities were good, we were a walk away from the centre, round the corner from a big supermarket and near to a variety of bars and restaurants. The kitchen was big but the fridges were packed full, and some of the hobs didnt work. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, we were able to use the internet for ...

Sleep, swim, drink, eat, BUNK
Advantages: A superb hostel - everything Disadvantages: Nest of little visitors but this didn't phase us
Bunk hostel is just on the very outskirts of the city centre of Brisbane (about a 10 minute walk) near the nightlife and entertainment of Fortitude Valley and directly next to Chinatown. If you arrive by bus or train into the Brisbane transit centre, the courtesy Bunk van will come and collect you. The hostel was really lovely - clean and modern and was probably one of the best looking places we stayed in. This may be due to the fact that they not ... ...hostel offers a variety of rooms from singles, twins, doubles and dorms, all with stylish modern décor. We booked an 8 bed dorm costing us $28 a night per person (roughly £14). The dorm was lovely and one of the best we came across with a screen down the middle of the room with 4 sets of bunks on either side giving each bed some privacy. There were enough big lockers for everyone to use and an ensuite with separate toilet and shower rooms so we never ...

the Edmondstone Motel was great and would stay again
Advantages: a really nice place to stay cosy, clean, modern friendly handy and in expensive Disadvantages: we have nothing negitive to say about this place
...regular basis, but found the Edmondstone by accident a few months ago. In our opinion,we can highly recommend this little motel because. It was not only inexpensive but clean, quiet and in a great location. From the moment you enter the reception you felt welcomed. It is nice to be recognised and even our names remembered, and just friendly people. In my opinion the rooms looked neat and tidy and spacious.Actually from our first visit we realised that ... ...bed was a king size and was soooo comfortable. After running around all day on business it was nice to come back to a cosy environment, after eating locally( great recommendations ) and then flopping on the bed to watch some telly on a large flat screen TV ( bigger than ours at home ) . The staff were helpful and visible and our room was serviced everyday. We think that this motel offered us a better product than some of the bigger places we have ...

Brisbane only a short walk away
Advantages: location to city, price, location to facilities Disadvantages: not handy to CBD for disabled people
We booked this accommodation through wotif.com and found it very handy to the city centre without being too close and expensive. It was approx. 1.2km walk (across Storey Bridge) to the CBD and around 800m to the Queensland Museum. Accommodation fine for travellers who are spending more time out and about enjoying Brisbane itself. Chinese restaurant attached to hotel (Adam's Oriental) is brilliant and lovely food. We found it to be a traditional style ... ...King of Brunei and numerous Prime Ministers. Cafe however has seen better days with poor service. Otherwise great place to stay (only 200m to Coles supermarket too). The room we had was value for money and would recommend this to any travellers needing something that isn't going to hurt the bank balance but still be in walking distance from the CBD. No lifts ...

Worst hotel ever!
Advantages: You don't have to live there Disadvantages: You will always have the memories
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Worst Western Astor Metropole Hotel and Apartments for one "god forsaken" night.
Never again...
Some of the "fun" that we encountered:
1) Staff that couldn't speak conversational English.
2) Slow lifts (that we believe were operated by arthritic monkeys pulling on ropes and pulleys).
3) No assistance in locating our room (the building is like an evil M.C. Escher painting).
4) No free champagne / chocolates ... ...about them, she was ushered back and forth between two reception areas, and was finally abruptly told "will you just take a seat and wait?".
5) The rooms were appalling, with: chipped paint; exposed chipboard in the bathroom; leftover "hair" from a previous guest in the bathroom; a wall-mounted hair dryer that appeared to be a relic of the cold war; a television (with woeful reception) on a cupboard (you could watch by raising your head to about ...
