My local...

Advantages: Convinient and compact
Disadvantages: Can get busy, parking charges

Bristol Airport was originally opened in 1930 in what is now known as the old terminal. Due to rising passenger numbers and the state of the old terminal, a new terminal was opened in 2000, which was designed to carry 3.5 million passengers a year. Bristol International airport is rapidly becoming the largest airport in the South West with 4.5 million passengers travelling through it in 2004. As I only live 15 minutes from the airport I use it most ...
...***Getting There***

Bristol Airport is not actually located in Bristol but 8 miles outside in North Somerset. It is well signposted from both the M5 and M4 and is situated on the A38 in Lulsgate.

If you are not travelling by car you can use the Bristol International Flyer, which is a direct coach service from Bristol bus station and Bristol Temple Meads railway station to the airport. It departs every 20 minutes and ... more

HARDLY HARVEY'S BRISTOL CREAM....

Advantages: Reasonable range of destinations, relatively convenient for me
Disadvantages: Expensive parking, not the easiest place to get to, Always Cold

And not strictly in Bristol either……. History indicated that, despite being my second closest International airport, I was destined never to fly from Bristol. The first time we booked to fly from there was to Fuerteventura a couple of years ago, then Thomsons, in true style decided to let us know about major building works at our apartments a mere 6 days before we were due to travel, the result? We ended up having a week in Cyprus with JMC from ...
...to the rescue, FlyBE from Bristol – third time lucky? But enough of my ramblings, onto the facts. DESTINATIONS Scheduled flights from Bristol operate to 27 European destinations by a range of carriers including EasyJet, FlyBE, BA and KLM who run the city-hopper service to the world gateway hub of Schipol, beware the pilots with alter-egos. Charter destinations, as would probably be expected, vary between summer and winter, the former including ...

Lulsgate Bottom is not Bristol

Advantages: Convenient, good services, friendly
Disadvantages: Not all that close to Bristol, poor road infrastructure to get to airport.

Up until recently Bristol Airport was not much more than a potting shed in the middle of a field, originally opened in 1929 by a group of flying enthusiasts. A major makeover, some aggressive marketing and opening of new destinations and all that has changed. So lets look at the history. >History The first Bristol airport was inaugurated as only the 3rd civil airport in the UK in 1930 by HRH Prince George. In 1930 925 people used the airport. Requisitioned ...
...March the airport was renamed Bristol International as part of a relaunch and rebranding exercise. In December 1997 the airport was partially sold by Bristol City Council to raise much needed finance for expansion. 51% is now owned by FirstGroup. In March 2000 the new terminal was opened by HRH Princess Royal. Passanger numbers now exceeded 2 million a year and expansion had meant changes to local roads and a new air traffic control building and ...

An airport that is sure to take off...

Advantages: clean, uncluttered, facilities
Disadvantages: selection of destinations is a bit limited at the moment

...might actually take off. Bristol airport isn't a typical airport. A new terminal building was constructed last year to cater for an increase in demand for internal and European flights from the South-West. Last Sunday was my first trip from the new terminal and - WOW. It's plush, its high-tech, its got huge open spaces, its not crowded, yet its busy, and it just looks outstanding. The design is fantastic. My flight was delayed for an hour, but ...
...me, the best things about Bristol are: 1. Its clean. 2. Its got huge uncluttered open spaces. 3. Its got big state of the art screens. 4. Its got all the facilities you need. 5. Its layout is simple to follow - getting the right gate isn't a nightmare! And, as for the selection of places you can get to from Bristol, its ever increasing. Go, the airline, is the latest to announce it will be introducing flights from Bristol. Now you can get to ...

Set for take off

Advantages: Connections with road, clean, easy
Disadvantages: Fog prone,limited airlines

...and had seen the sign Bristol Airport without giving it a second thought. And then I moved to Swindon...the time had come to fly from there. Bristol is clean, easy to get to road ( rail a bit harder), and is another one of those regional airports in the UK that are far more fun to travel from than the likes of Heathrow and Gatwick. It's not just a holiday airport; the advent of Go and the like have made the prospect of travelling to Glasgow from ...
...So what is Bristol Airport itself like? It is tidy, not a million miles away from the car parking (£35 a week deals can be found if you look hard enough), and a pleasure rather than a chore to travel from. This is obviously if all things go well, and if they don't there are enough things to look at and to play with to keep mini-travellers busy. Once in the departure lounge there are enough cafes and shops to while away a few hours and, as the disadvantages ...

Really good small airport with new facilities

Advantages: Compact, Low cost carriers, easy road access
Disadvantages: No rail access, can be fog prone.

...building was built at Bristol the airport has "taken-off". Excuse the pun. It is small enough to not be confusing and labyrinthine, and yet large enough to accommodate plenty of flights at a time and offer a good range of scheduled destinations. Easyjet, Flybe, Ryanair and some other low cost airlines operate from here. The long stay car parks are NOT located many miles away from the terminal which is the case for some of the larger UK airports. ...
...busiest times. What Bristol does lack is a large range of shops and restaurants, but as a small airport, can't really accommodate the malls of the larger airports. Another minus is that there is no rail link to the airport, and is served instead by a half-hourly coach service that runs during the day from the city centre via Temple Meads railway station to the airport. In conclusion, package holidaymakers and scheduled fliers alike should take advantage ...
