"Design" Hotel Greulich, Zurich

Advantages: Style, Rooms, Staff
Disadvantages: Not in the nicest part of town

The Hotel: Hotel Greulich is a "Design Hotel" located close to the centre of Zurich (Switzerland) and is named after Herman Greulich, a Polish social reformer who emigrated to Switzerland and founded the first Socialist Party of Switzerland (the hotel is situated on the corner of Herman-Greulich Strasse). On arrival, my wife and I were a bit disappointed with the building from the outside. Although it was a unusual and cool exterior design, it looked like it needed sprucing up a bit. The windows on the 1st floor and above looked quite old, etc. but at ground floor level, it did look "Design", with a modern looking bar and restaurant. After parking in the secure car park behind the hotel (20 Swiss Francs (CHF) per day), we checked in at reception and were taken to our room. The room was in a small interior courtyard ...

Good Hotel for exploring Bristol

Advantages: Clean, comfy, modern
Disadvantages: Very expensive restarant and bar, rather sad swimming pool and gym

This hotel in in the centre of Bristol within waling distance of Temple Meads Station. If you know Bristol then you will know that this location then might mean convenience but it's not gorgeous - a lot of Bristol was bombed in the war and rebuilt in the 50s and 60s and it shows! The hotel itself is newer than that though, but when you arrive it does look a bit tired and in need of a facelift. Parking is available and not difficult, though like most city centre budget hotels you have to pay extra for it, but I thought the £3.50 a night quite a good rate. It seemed a secure car park. . I checked in swiftly and the receptionist was helpful and friendly. I paid £104 a night for two people for an executive double (i.e. one grade up from the standard one) over the internet before we went. The hotel has a lot of floors (we were ...

The Best Western Hotel Montana, a great base in Zurich

Advantages: Bacon and eggs on the breakfast buffet, English spoken.
Disadvantages: Expensive, but it is in Zurich!

Best Western Montana, Zurich is very close to the main Zurich railway station which was our reason for choosing this hotel. We paid £323 for three nights bed and breakfast in a double room. For Zurich this did not seem to be bad value for money. The hotel has a restaurant serving evening meals but we did not try them as they seemed a bit pricey for what we wanted, and we found good food available elsewhere, notably at the station. On arrival our reservation was easily found, we had booked through Alpharooms. The receptionist changed to English as soon as we spoke to her and there was no language problem at all. The lift up to our room was glass and we could see right through the hotel, this was a stylish feature which I rather liked. The lift was very smooth. Our room was a reasonable size with a shower room ensuite. The view from ...
