Beauty on the Inside

Advantages: Newly refurbished, near train station
Disadvantages: Not very car-friendly

Arriving by car is an experience... although there is on-site parking facilities (you'll have to pay more for the experience) it wasn't a very inviting prospect. You'll need to fight you're way into the hotel through a back entrance to retrieve a code for the prison-style car park that you'll experience. Although a slightly traumatic experience - condemning your car to behind bars - at least you can believe it is safe. However, in other ways the ...
...helpful. The rates are reasonable for it's central position - one which is especially convenient if you arrive by train (temple meads is literally across the road). As the rooms go, they are clean and basic. But you may miss that nice little bath. I did. The hotel has been recently refurbished which means everything on the inside should be lovely, but the interior designers apparently dislike the concept of a bath tub. As for breakfast, it's nice ...

Gordano Services Days Inn- Excellent!

Advantages: inexpensive, easy to find, same standard everywhere, good standard of comfort
Disadvantages: no variety

...go to Bristol a few days ago and tried to get a hotel booking at short notice-hoping to go on the train. If I drive, it takes ma a good 4 hours on the motorway and you can't really relax like you can on the train. Anyway, there were no hotels available at a reasonable price so I decided that I had to drive. The next issue was where to stay if I did. The M5 has several service stations and I had stayed at Michaelwood services previously. I hadn't ...

Avon Calling!

Advantages: Beautiful views of the Bridge and the Avon Gorge; free wifi; great terrace
Disadvantages: A bit pricy for food and drink

The Avon Gorge Hotel is in a great position ,as it sounds, overlooking the Avon gorge! It is in Clifton, the posh bit of Bristol and definitely the bit you'd want to stay in you were only in bristol for Touristy things, and didn't need, say to be right in the centre for business or something. So you can see the famous Clifton suspension bridge - some rooms look directly onto it and you pay a bit more for those I think. The others face onto the street, ...
...but comfortable and adequately sized with that "nice hotel" furniture you get - light wood, stripes, dark blue and deep reds in the fabric, plush blue carpets. Standard but nice. Expect to pay about £120 for a double room B&B - they do have some weekend deals that work out cheaper. They have cots and highchairs and are OK about babies. The staff cooed over mine, anyway! Breakfast was nice - usual fruit/pastries/full English but all fresh and nicely ...

If only my windows would close

Advantages: Location, food, service, view from dining room
Disadvantages: The shower, the windows, the head waiteress

...put me up at the Walton Park hotel in Clevedon, a rather charming coastal town just off the M5. I remember arriving at the hotel one Sunday evening in June, the Victorian style elegance of the building was rather impressive from outside, it overlooked the Bristol estuary & there were palm trees in the garden. As I walked into the hotel you couldn't help but notice the high ceilings & wide doorways, a common feature of this age of building. The ...
...a fresh lick of paint but it remained rather pleasant all the same. Checking in was quick & efficient thanks to the equally efficient staff. My room was one of approx 40 in the hotel on the second floor facing the main road. The room was pleasantly decorated but once again could have done with a repaint. It was basic but comfortable with comfy bed, TV, tea & coffee & an en-suite toilet & shower but no bath. There were two old fashioned style sash ...

Aztec civilisation

Advantages: Convenient for M4/M5, Child friendly, Pool/spa, friendly staff, good food
Disadvantages: wedding venue

This hotel is an absolute dream for a weekend away with the kids. Located just by the junction of the M4 and M5 at Almondsbury this could not be easier to find. Parking is free and plenty of it. The welcome from the management was great, they simply took our bags from us at the front door and allowed us to go with the kids straight to the pool complex whilst they delivered the bags to our room. Throughout the weekend the staff remembered our names ...
...rooms were nice without being ostentatious and the views out of the widow were merely the car park. But the rooms were quiet and a good night sleep was had by all. Our main surprise was the quality of dinner where the attentive staff gave us just the right amount of attention and were pleased to have chldren at the table. A childrens menu was available and smaller portions of the main menu were also available. The children's menu contained all the ...
