Small Zoo, Big Heart

Advantages: Good Transport Links, Some Excellent Enclosures
Disadvantages: Small, Expensive, Some Less than Excellent Enclosures

I think one of the best things about zoos is the feeling of wonder, sometimes coupled with nostalgia, that you get when you visit. This is the impression ...
...fellow volunteers. I knew that Bristol Zoo would be very different from what I was used to and that I would have to find my way around it in the same way as any other first time visitor, but I still hoped that it would bring back that feeling of excitement and adventure that I still feel every time I set foot in that little corner of Regent's Park. Was I expecting too much? Let's see.

...of the most popular being Bristol Zoo Gardens. My family used to plan huge days out at the zoo when we were younger, we'd take a picnic and spend the whole day touring the zoo, playing on the greens and having a fantastic time. After a gap of several years not going, we had entered the world of teenager and were to cool to be seen out with family, we all decided one day that it would be nice to go again, they had alot of new enclosures that we had ...
...--- A little history- Bristol Zoo Gardens was founded in 1835 and opened to the public in 1836. It is the fifth oldest Zoo in the world, and the oldest one that is not in a capital city. In the 1920s and 1930s the zoo saw saw much improvement, some of the buildings constructed then still survive - for example the Aquarium and the Pavilion. During the Second World War some of the flowerbeds were switched over to vegetable growing and many of the ...

Monkey Poo Flourishes Here

Advantages: Educational, fun, interesting, cheap
Disadvantages: None

Bristol Zoo was started in 1835 by some eminent local citizens who wanted to create an attraction for the people of Bristol to explore and enjoy, some of the descendents of those local citizens are still on the board even today! It is recognised as the fifth oldest zoo in the world. I visited late last year on a Saturday morning, did it live up to it's billing as 'Zoo of the year 2004' ? ~How to get there~ Bristol Zoo is situated in the Clifton ...

...aged 3 and 1. Bristol Zoo was one of the most expensive, but I am not convinced that it was the one which held best value for money. How to get there ----------------------- The zoo is a short bus or taxi trip from the very centre of Bristol where all the shops are. ...them, and that the space Bristol zoo has to expand is limited but I did feel a little cheated at not being able to see these animals (on a different note you can see all except the zebras at Twycross Zoo which we also visited this year). I don't want to see miserable animals in small cages but there really were no big animals except the gorillas. The animals they did have there were not that keen on being outside as it was quite an overcast day ...

...we would be going to Bristol Zoo. It was always a special occasion for us as usually every year for as long as I can remember (generally during the last week of the summer holidays) we would always visit the Zoo. My nan would come with us and always pack a lunch which we would have for our dinner as a picnic. We always made a whole day out of it, and used to come back with a little something from the gift shop as we always used to get a couple ...

Mi Bristol Es Su Bristol

; @ Bristol A new hands-on science and technology, nature and arts museum based at the harbour-side in the city centre. The main attractions are “Explore”, the hands-on science and technology bit, “wildwalk”, an interactive nature tour, and the “Imax Theatre”. It isn’t a cheap day out but it is a full one and a combined ticket for all three attractions costs £16.50 for adults, £ 9.05 for children, £13.45 for concessions and £52.00 for a family ticket. You can pay for any of the attractions separately. This is one of my daughter’s favourite places to go and is a fun learning experience. I love to see her run around excitedly playing with all the exhibits, and having no one tell her “you can’t touch that”. It’s great.  Bristol Zoo Gardens, Clifton Down Bristol ...

Review of Edinburgh Zoo, Edinburgh

A Bristolians guide to Bristol!

Advantages: Good range of activities, very attractive areas, lots of fun to be had
Disadvantages: other areas are very dirty and run down

the clothing, bookshops, jewlers, electronics, games stores and all the other shops you need. A huge plus for me is that its undercover and also easy to find everything you need. There is also the usual food court as well as some larger restaurants and plenty of coffee bars spread all the way through. The opening times are good and I would say the best time to visit is either during a normal weekday or after about 5.30 in the evening. If I was you I would avoid the weekends as on Saturdays in particular, it has been known for the traffic to be queued all the way back onto the motorway! Now some of my favourite attractions of the area: Bristol Zoo - I used to love going here as a summer treat when I was younger and still really enjoy it! The zoo gardens are a very pleasant way to spend a summer's day and a great place to take the kids. The zoo ...
