I was really looking forward to reviewing this hotel for myself after reading so many horrendous reviews on the place. However upon arrival at the hotel, upon checking in, we were told that the hotel had been overbooked and there were no rooms left.
Note: I should add my friend booked this hotel not knowing its reputation and I read up about it afterwards. We couldn't find another hotel for the event we were attending in time.
We were offered rooms at their sister hotel - ok fine we thought, until they told us it was in Bolton. We had to take it in the end as Manchester was very booked up that night (several large sporting events will do that to a city) so we had to traipse back across Manchester through crowds of drunken hen nights to the car park and then drive up to Bolton. Not great.
My friend had to argue & get quite shirty before they would agree to refund some money which surely is not an unreasonable request when you're being sent to a different town, completely disrupting the purpose of your whole visit! We did get an apology but we were also made to feel a bit like *we* were the ones causing the problem.
In a way maybe it was a good thing that we didn't get rooms as the hotel shares a building with bass kicking bars/club and the whole place is surrounded by packs of lads & ladettes making quite a lot of noise. I can't imagine I would have got much (if any) sleep.
Sister hotel deserves another review of its own but I wouldn't recommend the Britannia Hotel chain to anyone - not even my worst enemy to be honest, not based on this weekend.
