My wife and I love to get high....that's because it almost always means we're going on a plane. Hopefully somewhere nice. On a recent flight to Portugal (April 02), we flew with British Midland. This was booked as part of a package with accommodation and BMI was the carrier.
Check-in at Edinburgh airport was fine - in fact it wasn't very busy at all as WE (read I) had misread the details and were among the last half dozen or so people to check-in. Consequently our seats were separated by the aisle.
***** ***** "It's your own fault for getting the times wrong and being too mean to pay a few measly quid for not pre-booking the seats." said my wife. "Yes dear", I said. "Now we won't be able to sit together", she pointed out. "Every cloud has a silver lining." thought I. ***** *****
This left us with 2 hours to kill before our flight; ample time to have a coffee at a well known chain, or have a beer at a well known chain or buy something at a well known chain. If only I had needed a pair of socks, or maybe a tie.
There was a slight delay of 30 minutes on the flight of because of 'technical reasons'. The most common fault in planes these days is apparently 'technical reasons'!
Service on the flight was very good - the attendants were friendly and helpful and the aircraft was spotless. The meal was one of the better ones I have had on a flight but the main course - chicken korma, with lashings of garlic - was maybe not the wisest choice in a confined space. Tasted good though.
The flight took 3 hours and on landing we were informed that there would be a slight delay until disembarkation (technical reasons), perhaps they weren't expecting us! It took another hour to get our luggage from reclaim but at least it wasn't lost.

Suitably refreshed and relaxed, we checked in for our return flight. Nice and easy with no problems. We managed to get adjoining seats and I was even allowed the window seat. Great! Naturally our seats were at one of the emergency exits, the sum total of windows in the immediate vicinity being none. Great! There was masses of leg-room though, in fact I couldn't reach the pouch on the seat in front. (where was I to put my junk?) The staff were friendly and quick to let us know that there would be a 30 minute delay because of 'technical reasons'. They were also quick to explain why the air-conditioning wasn't working - that's right, T.R. - but assured us it would be OK when the engines started. Well that was a big fat porky. More T.R. I expect.
For the meal on the return flight: see meal on the flight out. Same garlic smell but also same tasty korma.
We landed about 20 minutes late and after the baggage crew finally mastered the precision art-form of bag dumping, a 15 minute drive took us home. You know, it's great to go somewhere warm and lie on a beach but it's so much better to return home.....
Nope, I couldn't write that last line with a straight face!!!!
It may sound as though I am being negative about BMI in my review but I don't mean it to be. I always find flying is a most horrible experience and never enjoy it. As flights go, this was pretty good. And as airlines go, BMI are well above average. Everything was very slick and professional and I wouldn't hesitate to fly with them again.
I did plan to make this a longer review but I am having to cut it short for 'technical reasons'.
