As you may know, I live in Brittany and before Ryanair came on the scene, the only way for us to go backwards and forwards to England for family affairs etc. was Brittany Ferries.
Recently, however, I have had many friends ask me to make their reservations for them on the net because I can save them between one hundred pounds and one hundred and fifty pounds per trip, simply by surfing.
The pricing structure of Brittany Ferries is strange, and I do not understand why it varies from site to site, but they have two major sites, a french one of course, and an English one, both easily understandable (reservation is the same in both languages), and if you try and book a ticket on the English one, keep it in favourites, and then try and book a trip on the French one, compare the prices. You will be astounded.
It really does not matter which site you use to book your ticket as you can arrange to pick it up at the port and besides, if you are paying by card, they will naturally debit the card Euros or Pounds, but believe me there is a vast difference between the two pricing structures.
You can save a fortune. Last week I saved someone ninety pounds and regularly I do the same thing, as we all live in the countryside and I am the only one on computer.
Somewhere there is a glitch in the pricing of Brittany Ferries, and it is for you to find it. Dead easy.
The trips on board are ok if you are going on holiday. Chose daytime crossings if you can because they make it obligatory to have some kind of accommodation if you travel at night. You can still sleep on board during the day if you have a while to travel at the other side, because in the daytime, the cabins are at give-away prices.
Another point worth remembering is that Brittany Ferry reception give away sea sickness tablets, so don;t bother to buy any.
Now that the duty free zones between England and France have disappeared, I would suggest you buy your duty frees in France itself as they are cheaper and you get a lot more choice.
So whichone is cheaper?? I am guessing the French one! I travelled with them th eyear befoe last and the day trip was great but the night one? Bad - I had to book a lseepr chair as all cabins were full (like you say it is complusory) and when we went to our chairs after dinner other people were in them and there were no blankets left - when I asked for a blanket I got a wonderful gallic shrug!! As you know I am very pro french but that is one time I wasn't!! Exspecially as I had to pay extra for the chair and blanket we didn't use! We spent the night on the floor of the closed snack bar. The buffet dinner was divine though :) (cor that was a long comment!!)

Interesting-but I was left confused about which was the cheaper and how to access the French web site.A little more info would be helpful here.
