I've been to Browns a couple of times and there is no getting away from the fact that it is pretty expensive, but the food is absolutely exquisite.
I visited with a huge group of work colleagues and we all had the pre-theatre dinner, which is two courses for £10 per person, you have to eat quite early in the evening, and the menu is limited, but this is probably the cheapest way of eating at Browns.
We all ordered different dishes, and perhaps surprisingly most people were totally satisfied with the food. There is something to appeal to everybody at Browns from the traditional steak pie to pasta and light salads, although the food doesn't get particularly exotic there are several vegetarian options available. I went for goats cheese with croutons and rocket salad and I have to say that it was absolutely sublime. The desserts are to die for, I had a lemon torte which just melted in the mouth. Hope you're feeling hungry reading this because I'm feeling very hungry typing it!
The atmosphere in the restaurant is quite subdued and proper so as we were quite a raucous crowd we attracted a few dark looks and "tut tuts". For that reason I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for drunken nights out or even people with small children. The service was excellent, however, we definitely got the feeling that we outstayed our welcome after a couple of hours when the waitress came over to inform us that we'd only booked the table until 9pm and could we leave now, please.
