Beer in Belgium
Review of Straffe Hendrik Brewery, Bruges by honey000

Advantages: Excellent value for money, free beer
Disadvantages: Lots of steep steps!

Beer is probably one of the four things that you think of when visiting Belgium - the others being of course (chips and mayonnaise, chocolate and belgium waffles) so would a trip to Belgium be complete without visiting a brewery - I dont think so! Tours are available in French, German, Italian, Dutch and Japanese so something for everyone! This tour is not for anyone who cant walk ... Read review

It isn't far from the cathedral, the main tourist sites in Bruges (the diamond museum is not far away) and is about ten minutes walk from the train station. To be honest, we went with some people ...
...BIT OF HISTORY. The Straffe Hendrik Brewery was founded in 1856, when the present building was built. It was always run as a family business and is a small and friendly place. They did stop brewing for a while but, in April 2005, brewing recommenced. Now the brewery brew a beer called Brugse Zot (which means Bruges Lunatic) and have had to change the brewery name from Straffe Hendrik (which means Strong Henry) to the Half Moon. This is mainly because ... Read review
