...that grand) and the famous Manneken Pis. The latter is the subject of this review. And, due to the nature of the review, I will be using a splattering of the word wee throughout the review. This subject just begs for its use. Manneken Pis (translated as little man wee) is famous well beyond the boundaries of both Brussels and Belgium. The statue in question is that of a wee small boy urinating into a basin. It's one of Belgium's best known landmarks. ...
...(and ultimately tackier) versions of Manneken Pis on sale. It's not really worth the visit. But you have to do it while you are in Brussels, it's one of the things on everyone's 'to do' list. I wasn't even tempted to buy the Mannekin Pis in chocolate in one of the ever present chocolate shops and devour it at my pleasure. I was just totally underwhelmed by the experience. By all means, go and visit the fountain, it's a must do thing when in Brussels. ...

Up Cantillon Kriek without a Paddle!

Advantages: A fascinating insight into the history of brewing.
Disadvantages: Not for the less mobile or for children.

...where the Eurostar stops) was Cantillon Brewery ~ the Brussels home of Lambic and Gueuze beer! ~~~WHERE IS CANTILLON? The brewery, bar and visitor centre is located at number 56 Rue Gheude Straat, in a suburb of Brussels called Anderlecht. When you arrive by train at Brussels Midi Station you can either walk (it takes about ten to fifteen minutes) or get a tram or bus. The metro station is more or less attached to the railway station and there ...
...numbers 20 and 47. Cantillon is housed down an alley in an old building that actually looks a little like a run down workshop or garage. It really doesn't look very inspiring at first glance, but if you venture inside you are in for a bit of a history lesson and will be stepping back in time! ~~~A BIT OF HISTORY. Cantillon Brewery is the only remaining family run brewery in Brussels, as opposed to over 50 that could be found at the beginning of ...

A clear stay-away!

Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Service is laughably terrible!

The Danish Tavern is located 42, Rue de la Bourse right in the heart of what may be called the 'restaurant quarter' - an area thick with restaurants and cafes of every description. This street boasts of several excellent eating joints where I have spent many happy hours eating (and downing the odd beer); however with my uncanny nose for good restaurants (!), I zeroed right in one day on this unfortunate example of all that is poor in the eating business! ...
...decor is a bit tacky. However it doesn't take long for your impression to head south rapidly - only as long as it takes you to get the attention of the staff. Their concept of service appears to be gaping at you as though customers are an unwanted irritant - althought I suspect that language had something to do with it, somebody ought to tell these folks that customers do not relish being treated in this manner! The upshot is an experience that can ...

Explore all Europe in one morning

Advantages: Great models, informative, lots of variety
Disadvantages: Relentlessly pro-European, little shelter in the rain

Bruparck is a leisure complex on the Heysel plateau, comprising 5 main attractions: The Atomium Océade - a big swimming pool complex Kinepolis - a 30 screen multiplex cinema, including an IMAX, showing films in English with subtitles, as well as dubbed into French Mini-Europe – which will be the main subject of this review The Village – this is a complex of restaurants, ranging from fast food to more traditional Belgian bistros and restaurants ...
...play area. MINI-EUROPE In short Mini-Europe is a theme park in the shadow of the Atomium, where you can walk past 1/25 scale models of many of the great buildings of Europe. In addition to looking at the model buildings, there is an interactive exhibition about the European Union, a cafeteria and a gift shop. THE BUILDINGS The models are the star of the show. The original selection of buildings was made back in 1987 by a committee of art historians. ...

Charleroi Airport: An overview

Advantages: Easy to get to. Cheap flights with Ryanair
Disadvantages: Very small. Not many facilities. Long queues on arrival

...from Gare du Midi in Brussels 2 and 1/2 hours before each flight) and by train ( From Gare du Midi to Charleroi Sud station and then a 12 minute bus link to the airport). The airport itself is pretty tiny with only a handful of check-in desks; therefore expect long queues!
