Five star luxury in the hear of Brussels

Advantages: Location, size, quality service and comfort
Disadvantages: Some will not like the limited facilities

...fortunate enough to stay at Le Meridien, in Brussels a few weeks back after winning a competition. It was a novel situation all round as I would not normally be able to afford to stay at this quite exclusive establishment on my travel and subsistence budget and, even if I were I would be too busy to appreciate my surroundings. I do visit Brussels a lot for work and have stayed in many hotels (I reviewed the Welcome Hotel a while back and this remains ...
...while. Ownership The Le Meridien chain is managed by the US based Starwood Group. This also includes the Sheraton, Westin and St Regis chains amongst others. They operate 888 hotels worldwide, 499 are managed and the balance are franchised. The link to the Le Meridien, in Brussels is through the Starwood web site. This is the best link for a full list of all the services available and I am not duplicating such lists in my reviews as this is not ...

Four points by sheraton, Brussells

Advantages: Clean and friendly
Disadvantages: Distance from Grand Place

My partner and I stayed here for two nights from the 29th Feb, we stayed on a room only basis and didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the restaurant. The room was quite large and comfortable which also had ensuite facilities however some of the decor was starting to look a little shabby, we noticed a couple of cracked tiles in the ensuite and a fire exit sign hanging off in one of the corridor. We did have a drink down in the bar during the ...

Luxury hotel, great weekend rates

Advantages: Central location, bargain weekend rates include excellent buffet breakfast
Disadvantages: Rooms slightly on the small size. Expensive to stay during the week

...picturesque main square. The Royal Windsor offers all the trappings of a high-class hotel: 24 hour room service, fitness club, laundry service, garage, sauna etc. etc. The multi-channel TV has pay-per-view movies and even the UK channels BBC 1 & 2. The en-suite bathrooms are well equipped and the bedrooms are generally very nice if a little on the small size. I found the room got a little stuffy but the windows can be opened and it is not too noisy ...
...enough to be assigned one of the rooms on the Godiva floor then not only do you get an even more opulent room you also get free box of Godiva chocolates - alas, having booked two rooms, only one was on this floor. The bargain weekend rate also includes a buffet breakfast; if you are used to these being miserable affairs tucked away in a windowless basement away from the proper restaurant then you are in for a very pleasant surprise. The buffet takes ...

Good location, but slightly tired fittings

Advantages: Excellent location (only 5 minutes walk from the Grand Place), free wireless internet access
Disadvantages: Fittings seemed well-used, rooms dark

...spent three nights at the Scandic Grand Place, as we had arranged a block booking for the conference I was organising in Brussels and the Scandic Grand Place was the more moderately priced hotel in which we had got a discounted rate, although I ended up booking through hotelclub.net as it was another EUR 25 a night cheaper, so I was paying EUR 110 per night including breakfast. I was able to check in early - arriving at just before 11am on the Saturday ...
...usually check-in is from 2pm. My room was quite small, with the fittings somewhat on the basic side - we'd been told that the hotel was 4* although I would place it as a 3* - in particular since there was no gym available (currently being renovated). The fittings were somewhat basic - and there was no safe in the room, which is something that I tend to take for granted at a hotel of this class. There was also no ironing board or trouser press, although ...

A Classic Case of Trying TOO Hard

Advantages: I slept well
Disadvantages: Too much style and nothing like enough substance at this price

...like. The hotel was the Vintage Hotel and it was less than a mile away. She would have paid for a taxi to take me there but my colleague was happy to take me and by doing so, he would be sure to know where the hotel was when he came to collect me in the morning. We struggled a bit with the one way system and it took about 15 minutes before we finally found the hotel. Concerned that I might be about to suffer another 'no room at the inn' incident, ...
...have anti matter, then the Vintage Hotel was the 'Anti-hotel' of the White Hotel. The Vintage is obsessed with the design of a period from around 1950 to late 1970s. That at least is my guess because the theme really wasn't strong enough to tie it down to a narrower range. When my mother first met my stepfather in the 1970s he had psychedelic vinyl wall paper of such horrific impact that I suspect she almost turned on her heel and grabbed her coat. ...
