Decent Thai buffet in central Brussels
Review of Lotus Bar, Brussels by larsbaby

Advantages: Good buffet food, good price
Disadvantages: Not sure what the a la carte is like

...the lady chanced upon the Lotus Bar in the Sablon area near to our hotel. Having walked around for a good half hour looking for something that took our fancy, we thought we'd give this place a bash for the buffet. So here we are. THE RESTAURANT The restaurant was on 2 floors, the entrance being on the upper floor. A red curtain covered the entrance door and the décor was very dark, with black painted tables and chairs. Most of the tables ...

Belly dancer decapitation a real possibility
Review of Chatelaine Du Liban, Brussels by larsbaby

Advantages: Excellent food and service
Disadvantages: Belly dancing safety hazard

INTRODUCTION I thought it was time to escape the Dutch food for a weekend and visit somewhere that appreciates real food - welcome to Brussels. Along with some friends also visiting Brussels, I was taken to the restaurant by a friend of mine from Brussels who was recommended this place by her sister. This was a little bit outside the centre of town, in one of the ethnic districts. There were many other restaurants in the same area, and I was ...
...We decided on Lebanese food as we'd heard it was good due to all the Middle Eastern immigrants and were keen to try this with the recommendation in our minds. THE RESTAURANT First impression were good; a roomy restaurant, with room for about 100 diners, with several Lebanese people eating there - always a good sign. The atmosphere was pretty convivial and relaxed. We were shown to a large round table, covered with a huge white tablecloth, ... Read review

Metropolitan socialising
Review of Mappa Mundo, Brussels by 98dmalcolm

Advantages: Young trendy croud
Disadvantages: Not great for eating

Mappa Mundo is in the centre of Brussels very close to the Bourse (Stock exchange). In the evenings it attracts a young relaxed croud who's main aim is to chill out. The bar is on two floors with a terrace out onto the street, with a serving bar on each floor. The drinks menu is typical of a bar and beer on the tap is relatively cheap. I wouldn't reccomend trying to eat here during the evening as it gets very busy, however as a lunchtime sandwich ... Read review

A clear stay-away!
Review of Danish Tavern by A_Milne

Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Service is laughably terrible!

The Danish Tavern is located 42, Rue de la Bourse right in the heart of what may be called the 'restaurant quarter' - an area thick with restaurants and cafes of every description. This street boasts of several excellent eating joints where I have spent many happy hours eating (and downing the odd beer); however with my uncanny nose for good restaurants (!), I zeroed right in one day on this unfortunate example of all that is poor in the eating business! ...
...decor is a bit tacky. However it doesn't take long for your impression to head south rapidly - only as long as it takes you to get the attention of the staff. Their concept of service appears to be gaping at you as though customers are an unwanted irritant - althought I suspect that language had something to do with it, somebody ought to tell these folks that customers do not relish being treated in this manner! The upshot is an experience that can ... Read review

The Wild Geese Brussels
Review of The Wild Geese by eugeneonline

Advantages: Good Location
Disadvantages: Racist Door Policy

...readers of all nationalities that the Wild Geese operates a racist door policy. I am a Black british expat myself, and I live on the actual square where it is located but have never been let in by the doormen, except when with white friends. This has now happened on three seperate occasions. The reason given for the Nazi style door slamming upon our approach is 'regulars only, I don't know you'. You can bypass this as I have done several times by ...
...There is nothing really special about this pub, just that most people will speak English and Thursdays nights in particular are really packed. If you want a cheesy early start to the weekend with loads of EU staff, this is the place for you. Brgds, Eugene ... Read review
