Ah, Buchanan Street! At the heart of Glasgow, it's got it all. It's definitely the place to start your shopping in Glasgow - for music, clothes, jewellery, or even a stiff drink.

Ah, Buchanan Street! At the heart of Glasgow, it's got it all. It's definitely the place to start your shopping in Glasgow - for music, clothes, jewellery, or even a stiff drink.
First off, it's a pedestrian zone, so you won't be mowed down by traffic. It is the horizontal bar of a massive H with Sauchiehall Street and Argyle Street. Between them, these three areas will satisfy even the wildest shopaholics, and I'm going to include all three in my opinion. I'm not going to include the Buchanan Galleries, the shopping centre at the corner of Buchanan and Sauchiehall.
Clothes: (I'm going to stick to guy's clothes shops, since I have absolutely no help to offer for the women) Buchanan St: Diesel, USC, Foot Locker, Next, Topman, House of Fraser -- Argyle St: Gap, JJB Sports -- Sauchiehall Street: Greaves Sports, M&S For designer clothes, Diesel is brilliant, but a bit pricey. There's a ton of sports shops, so trainers and any sports clothes or equipment are easy to come by - Foot Locker's my favourite. Next, Gap, and Topman are pretty familiar names, and all have mid-size stores in the area. Personally, I think Topman is the best for value, but all three have got good clothes occassionally. For the baggy trousers and band gear, check out Flip, just off Buchanan Street.
Books and Music Buchanan St: Borders, Virgin -- Argyle St: Virgin -- Sauchiehall St: HMV, Waterstones, Ottokars You'll NEVER be more than a minute's walk from a book, CD or video in this area. The three bookstores, Borders, Waterstones and Ottokars, cater for everyone. My personal choice is Borders, for its bustling atmosphere and outstanding magazines and music sections. Virgin Megastores is represented twice - odd! The Buchanan Street store is far superior, and is wonderful for jazz fans like myself. It's also good for classical, video and computer games. HMV on Sauchiehall Street is often good, due to its frequent bargain bin sales. Virgin, Borders, and Waterstones all have cafes - again Borders has the top honours.
Electronics Buchanan St: Game -- Sauchiehall St: Dixon's Not much here - although gamers are fine with Game, which has a good selection. For better electronics, there's a Comet in the Buchanan Galleries (and also an Electronics Boutique).
Restaurants and Cafes Buchanan St: TGI Fridays, Sainsbury's Express -- Sauchiehall St: Pret a Manger, Starbucks, Dino's -- Argyle St: Italiano TGIs is a fun restaurant with good food at mid-range prices. For a snack or light meal, Dino's is good - and great value. The ubiquitous Starbucks is too expensive, but still serves nice coffee. There are literally dozens of nice little restaurants further up Sauchiehall Street, such as Antipasti (which has a great lunch menu for about £4 a dish) and Kama Sutra. The best restaurants in town are outside the city centre though.
Furniture and Home Buchanan St: Habitat, The Pier -- Sauchiehall St: Hoseworks The Pier is great for little knick-knacks, as is Habitat.
Banks There are plenty of cash machines about - from the Halifax, Royal Bank of Scotland, Clydesdale Bank and many others.
Other Notables For musical instruments and sheet music, Biggars and McCormacks are both close by and worth a look. If you want comic book or sci-fi stuff, Forbidden Planet is famously good. The Argyle Arcade has a huge choice of jewellery stores. Princes Square shopping centre is rife with overpriced boutiques (if you like that sort of thing). I've probably missed out hundreds of things, sorry - the area is just too big and has far too many shops!
Travel: No problem! Underground and overground trains are plentiful from Central Station, there's a big bus station too.
The Verdict Top class shopping in Glasgow! Great choice in every respect - notably music and books. Sometimes crowded, but that's the only downside. More fun than wandering round a mall any day, I recommend this area without hesitation for a fantastic shopping experience!
Advantages: good day out, lots of shops, something for everyone Disadvantages: it's in Glasgow
...the glass windows are the Buchanan Galleries. I love the appearance of the building and always buy something at the small Sainsbury's local next door. It is easy to get to Buchanan Street from the train station and bus station, there is also parking nearby which is easy for those coming a long way. When inside the Buchanan Galleries you see escalators, hectic atmosphere and Millie's Cookies. I love the cookies, I am sure it is still there anyway ... ...or also just go down Buchanan Street looking at shops or go to Sauciehall Street, St Enoch's centre is a tube stop away at Buchanan Street. It is easy to get around with the underground, at the St Enoch's centre the food in the upstairs cafeteria is really nice I go for pizza and chips you can also get pizza, there is a potato secton, pizza etc . The transport in Glasgow is easy to access there are always buses, trains are frequent and buses are ...

...bit about the layout of Buchanan Street and the surrounding shopping area. Buchanan Street is the center of the area, running from north to south through the heart of the city. It is approximately a quarter of a mile long and completely pedestrianised (apart from a few streets that run across it). Both stations provide access to areas within Greater Glasgow, aswell as further ...

Who ate all the pies, deep-fried Mars bars, chip butties and black pudding? Glasgow did, and smothered them in gravy. Glasgow came out on top of a recent survey to find the fattest city in the UK. Not known for its healthy habits you could have predicted that Glasgow would score highly on the table of lard, ... ...in such style. With points in every category but one, and high scores for lack of parks, bad eating habits, incidents of fatal heart disease and numbers of fast food restaurants. Glasgow gave itself an impressive 12-point lead over its competitors. Surprisingly, it was the number of health clubs that let is belt-breaking record down. The city is teeming with them, it has the largest number in the UK - if only they would actually use the things. Despite ...

Advantages: Bright and Clean. Disadvantages: Mostly clothes shops.
The Buchanan Galleries is an indoor shopping mall in the heart of Glasgow’s city centre. The centre has wide open malls and the whole centre has a bright, clean feeling to it. There are about 80 shops in the centre, the largest of which is the John Lewis Department Store. The shops are on three levels, with a Food Gallery on a fourth level. There is a decent selection of shops, although by far the majority are clothes shops. For us men, who ... ...preferred to see more seating in the centre, where we could sit down and wait whilst others looked around the shops. Apart from in the Food Gallery there are very few seats anywhere in the centre. There is a crèche where children aged 2 – 8 years old can be left, whilst their parents shop in the centre. For older children they may be attracted to the Internet kiosks that are situated next to the Food Gallery. The centre has a large car park ...

Advantages: Relaxed, spacious, full day out, unique Disadvantages: Small, expensive shops
Princes Square, within Buchanan St, Glasgow's main shopping fareway, is a shopping centre with a difference. The building dates from 1841, when it was a Merchant square.
When the building was converted in the 1980's the architects carefully worked their design around many of the original features, such as the yellow sandstone walls. To give more height, the basement was excavated to house more retail space. A clear glass dome was added over the whole building to bring in more light.
The exterior of the building was also updated slightly to draw people in. Glass canopies were added over the three entrances from BuchananStreet, one of which is an esclator leading straight to the second level. Additionally a huge peacock feature was added to the top of the building, looking out over BuchananStreet.
In the centre of the centre ...

**Location/Getting there**
This hotel is located close to Sauchiehall Street, Argyll Street and BuchananStreet. It can still be annoying to find though as it is up a side street and along a bit. From the outside it doesn't even really look like a hotel. The street is rather small and near a school so it might be difficult to park there
**Reception/staff**
Staff are not that friendly ,it feels like you are a inconvenience to them and getting in the way of their chatting. Check in took ages as we had to wait for them to stop chatting (they could see us) and then they had a problem with their computer.
**Hotel/Room**
Room numbers in this hotel aren't very clearly marked ,neither is the way to the rooms. The room is very basic .The furniture in the room we stayed in looked like it would topple over if ...
