Budapest, lovely city!!!
Advantages: pretty city, loads to do, reasonable prices, nice food and wine, hot weather! Disadvantages: having to come home!!
...whilst the hostel wasn't great Budapest was fantastic!!!
The food and wine were our personal favourites, either simple and rustic or fancy and elegant, all for very reasonable prices and pleasant service!!
The architecture is beautiful, very picturesque and we found Budapest to be very clean. A night time trip over the chain bridge from Buda into Pest (they are 2 separate places!) was lovely, all the important buildings are lit up along the Danube.

Rocking Town
Advantages: Eastern Promise Disadvantages: It closes late at night
...them, criss crossed by bridges; Budapest rocks, it really does, it has great hotels and restaruants, all sorts of little side stgreets, tourist buses and people who stand around in yellow t-shirts waitng for you to ask them a question.
You can go by boat or bus and tram, but it is best to walk around and get thouroughly lost, find the small jazz clubs and music bars. Walk across the Chain Brifge on a saturday evening and breathe in the smell of ... ...funicular railway to the top then look down over the whole of Pest..
There are tourist attractions by the million, shopping at the West End (by the station), Margaret Island, you name it.
Budapest rocks. forget Paris if there was ever a city for roamnce this is it. ...

You gotta see The Danube
Advantages: Atmospheric Disadvantages: Untidy in parts.
I travelled with freinds to Budapest in March 2008 as part of a suprise 50th birthday present for a long time freind.
We travelled from Manchester airport and it was one of the very few occasions that I can recall both inward and outward flights not being delayed. On arrival at the airport we had a plan to travel into the centre by using the Buda travel card.Rather confusingly we discovered that we needed to buy a bus ticket from the airport to the ... ...as the venue itself.
Budapest airport is relatively small and its faciliies whilst basic won't keep many international travellers amused should your return journey be delayed.
The journey into town highlights the fact that the country still suffers from under investment and has an old fashioned rundown feel in both the suburbs and on the Buda side of the river.
We stayed in the upmarket Hotel Intercontinental that has superb views of he River ...

BUDAPEST 2008
Advantages: Great for adults, cheap, cultural Disadvantages: Not much for Kids, the language.
...after my recent trip to Budapest :- "midnight in the enchanting décor of the Rudas Turkish baths. Half asleep we slip among languid bodies in the red marble octagonal basin. …..…it's easy to relax into the ambient hubbub which you can muffle by sinking up to your ears.……and we float lost in daydreams."
Budapest has a turbulent history with its greatest period arguably being the 19th Century when it emulated Vienna as one of Europe's greatest cities. ... ...a good job of gutting Budapest and when they were forced to leave by the oncoming Russian army, they blew up all the bridges, including the famous Chain Bridge, which was originally based on the idea of the chain bridge in Marley, Buckinghamshire. Luckily most of the city has now been beautifully renovated including the Chain Bridge, and the Jewish quarter. Budapest used to have a larger Jewish population of around 450,000 before WW2 but the Germans ...

Lady Penelope in Budapest?
Advantages: The opera house and Bell Canto Disadvantages: None
We had a great stay in Budapest; our hotel was on the river near St. Margaret’s Island on a Boatel which was wonderful.
The island is a delight. We walked round listening to music being played whilst letting the fountains entertain us. It is a large island and we found pedal cars that were big enough to seat 4 adults, we had to do it so we chose the bright pink lady Penelope car. The men sat in the driving seat (never had guessed would you?) and ... ...the hour, but after 10 minutes we realised that enough was enough and we had to have a beer stop, gosh and after a drink set off again back to the depot to give her back. Not after we had had our pictures taken though. It was hard work so I now understand why children get out and walk.
The fountains are very relaxing and give a good performance to the music and well worth a mention.
You can catch a bus to which takes you from one end to the other ...
