As many of you know, I have just returned from Budapest. It is one of my life's ambitions to visit all the capital cities of Europe so I was thrilled when my parents said we could go to Budapest. Budapest is the capital city of Hungary. Hungary is located in Central Europe, bordered by Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Hungary developed closer ties with Western Europe, and joined the European Union on May 1, 2004. Budapest is the seventh largest city in the European Union.

The Budapest Marriott is located on the riverside of Pest and had a fantastic view of the river Danube. We were lucky enough to have a water facing room. The hotel was within walking distance of the main attractions in the city centre.
The hotel was about 20 minutes form the airport and cost approximately 35 Euros (about Ł24) to get there. Upon ...

We arrived in Budapest in the evening and because it was snowing heavily and we had no idea where we were going, we jumped into a taxi and gave the address of the hotel. After a relatively short and very picturesque drive, we arrived at the hotel which is situated on a wide tree lined avenue, Andrassy Ut. We later found out that this is the principal thoroughfare in Budapest and is known as the Champs Elysees of Hungary, situated as it is in the Embassy district, and close to major attractions.
**First Impressions**
These are always important, and as the taxi pulled up into the front area which was rather like a modern cobbled courtyard, these ...
