Having stayed in a Marriott hotel on a previous holiday, I was not disappointed when he told us that we would be staying in a Marriott in Budapest. What I didn't know until we got there was that we would be staying in a junior suite! (The room was discounted when we stayed so we got a better room for our money! :)
The Budapest Marriott is located on the riverside of Pest and had a fantastic view of the river Danube. We were lucky enough to have a water facing room. The hotel was within walking distance of the main attractions in the city centre.
The hotel was about 20 minutes form the airport and cost approximately 35 Euros (about £24) to get there. Upon arrival to the hotel the Bellman took our luggage and waited for us to check in before showing us to our room. The lobby was large and the staff were friendly. There was a shop and restaurant in the lobby. The shop sold general souvenirs but they were more expensive than in the shops in the city. There was also a small chocolate shop, which sold hand made chocolates. These were delicious. We bought some as a treat on our first day (before we had got our head around the currency) but they were really expensive so we didn't buy any more!
There were three large lifts, which meant that waiting time was kept to a minimum. The lifts were quite big but looked larger as they contained mirrors. Our room was on the 5th floor. We had two key cards to get into our room. These cards were also needed in the lifts (when going up.)
As our room was a Junior Suite we had access to the Executive level, which was located on floor 10. On this floor there were rooms as well as the executive lounge, which served complimentary drinks and snacks all day. Alcoholic drinks were not complimentary but it was self-service and you just filled a form in to say which alcoholic drinks you consumed. I thought this was very trusting of the staff but there was usually someone there supervising. In the evening there was extra food (still complementary) and as we had usually eaten through the day the food served in the executive lounge was enough so we didn't need to eat out in the evenings as well. Breakfast was also served in the executive lounge (as well as a buffet breakfast in the restaurant downstairs). It was really pleasant eating breakfast looking out onto the Danube.
The executive level also had a room containing two computers with free internet access. This was a great (cheap!) way of keeping in touch with my sister and friends as the cost of phone calls were quite expensive. I have to admit though, that I didn't use the facility for keeping up with ciao! (sorry!!)
Our room was lovely. The room was located at the end of the corridor and on entrance the bathroom was on the left and there was a walk in dressing room (with full-length wardrobe) on the left. The room was quite large. My parents had a king size bed and I slept on the bed settee. The room also had a desk and a television. There was two windows as we had a corner room and the balcony was quite large. Had we been there in the summer it would have been nice to sit outside, but it was a bit chilly (!) in February when we there.
Recommend? Definitely. A luxurious 5-star hotel in the heart of the city. The staff were friendly and spoke English very well. They were happy to help with directions to sight-seeing spots. I thoroughly enjoyed staying in this hotel (and I'll have to make the most of going on holiday with my parents as it won't be long until I have to start paying for myself! Lol)
