For our last vacation in the US we wanted to get a car that would fit our needs. So I reserved a car over the internet and also gave them my credit card number to make the reservation final. I did this 2 month in advance, so that they would have time to arrange everything, so that we could get the car we wanted (Sport Utility Vehicle). They comfirmed and we figured everything would be fine.
We were dead wrong...
When we got to the airport and went to the budget car rental service we hoped, to get our car right away and live happily ever after. We had our reservation and figured everything prepared, so it was quite a shock to hear them say the following sentence: `Sorry sir,but we are out of SUVīs.` I told them and showed our reservation for exactly that kind of car, but they couldnīt do a thing. So they gave us instead of a free upgrade a van in the same price class, a Ford Winstar (called different in Germany or the UK). OK, we said, because we were really tired, because it really was a long day and we had to drive another 2 hours to our final destination and holiday resort. After a couple of days we realized that this car was overdue for inspection and not really working propperly. In the end it was hard to drive, because the engine died on our way back. After five minutes it was working again, but always making noises. We called Budget and they said ok we will exchange cars with you. Please drive to that location tomorrow... SORRY???One day lost for nothing? And then you arenīt coming out here for the change? But that was unfortunately the only way they were able to handle that situation. We changed cars and got an SUV as ordered and asked for on the phone (no, that was not the reason for the delay, other cars were a problem, too).
But I will never ever rent a car with Budget again. Sometimes they are even rude on the phone for things no one is responsible for but themselves. So if they are not interested to keep their customers and to satisfy them, why would anyone rent there again. I certainly wonīt...
LET'S BRING BIG CORPORATIONS LIKE THIS DOWN FOR MISTREATING THE LITTLE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THEM BIG. TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO AVOID BUDGET LIKE THE PLAGUE, AND EVENTUALLY, HOPEFULLY THEY'LL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR UNPROFESSIONAL NEGLECTFUL WAYS.

I use Budget alot in this country and find them very good.Ive never used them abroad, but do find them to be reasonable.Im not sure how long ago you rented, but im sure if you try complaining in writing to there customer services im sure you will get a good response from them if you rental was recent.Good opinion mate.Baz
