I have used Budget car hire on a number of occasions from Belfast International Airport over the years. I usually book through an on-line agent called 'Auto Europe' who provide very competitive rates & discounts for regular use. The service provide by Budget staff is at best patchy. I normally book insurance in advance to protect my excess wavier of £600 which Budget charges anything up to £17.50 a day for. My on line charge works out at £3.80 a day for the same cover, when you decline it from the Budget staff they do get a bit tetchy, I guess they must get a percentage from the booking.
One day I refused their excess protection & so then they added 'cross border' insurance for travelling to Dublin with. When I queried this charge, again they become very tetchy. I stated that each time I used Budget they ask me where I'm travelling & they have never asked for cross border insurance before (or since for that matter) but stated that they don't make the rules, only obey them!!
The cars are at least clean & ready for hire, but I would advise everyone to check them over carefully as they often miss out reporting damage & items missing, even handbooks. The young lads who look after the vehicles in the compound are pretty good & always give you a run back to the airport when handing the vehicles back.
If you find driving a strange car a concern, there is no one at hand to explain the vehicles controls. Most cars don't have handbooks in them & there is often no one at hand to help. Despite that, the cars are usually OK & Budget do a reasonably good job, they will provide an upgrade free of charge if your original chosen vehicle is not available.

Advantages: Initially the experience of picking up the car was satisfactory although ultimately misleading. Disadvantages: Appallingly slow customer services. Consistently misleading and lying.
