When I was a mere lad back in the 1950's the Bull Hotel was looked on in Peterborough as people would think about The Savoy in london.
It was a place us "Common" people of Peterborogh were allowed to walk past, but not too close.
To hear that someone had been for DINNER at the Bull Hotel put them into the company of Royalty.
But that was then when the Population of Peterborough was about 52000 and there was just one main road going through the City.
52000 at a time when the Membership of Peterborough United Football club then in the Midland League was about 30000.Oh what happy days they were.
Anyway all comes to those who wait and last year we were attending a family gathering of such vast numbers that all beds in the Fountain Family establishments were taken up, even the lawns of the gardens were fully booked with tents.
We knew how Joseph and Mary must have felt, no room at the Inn.
Jane the wife says now we have some CASH lets try the Bull.
After some serious Heart Massage at the shock I started to search the internet.
First the Bull Hotel's own site. £120 for a night room only. (Mum and Dad would have turned in their graves, if we had not had them cremated.
But endevor has its rewards, found a site that had a room at the Bull, still no breakfast for £40, booked it. ( I think that was a whole years Rate Bill when I was a kid)
The majic day came, we even had a Taxi from the Station, its only about 400 yards, but you have to arrive at the BULL HOTEL in style.
Very nice check-in desk, and very smart staff (Some clients must be paying the £120)
Checkin no problem, but then quite a walk and stairs to climb, I suspect that is where the £40 rooms are.
Room was a fair size, not big not small. View from the Window THE CAR PARK.
Bath room to be fair was better then the room, tempted to sleep in there.
TV Radio and Trouser Press available. Dad always taught us to put out trousers under the mattress while we slept, he was an old sailor.
Looked at Hotel Restaurant Menu and decided to eat out, object to silly mark ups on HOUSE WINE, work in the Co-op so know it is only a £2.99 wine so why £15 a bottle.
Breakfast looked tempting but again the price was far more than we were paying my Brother.
Location wise the Bull is at the Centre of Old Peterborough, the only pity is that everything goes on on the outside of New Peterborough, so at night the centre can seem a bit of a ghost town.
Hope I have not been too hard on the Bull Hotel, I am sure if you pay £120, then pay more for an evening meal and even more for a Breakfast your view may be better than mine.
