Bunchrew Caravan and camping Park is located 3miles east of Inverness,and is siting on the beautiful shores of the Beauly Firth,with breathtaking views of Ben Wyvis.It is open from the Middle of March to the end of Nov every year.It has 125 level grassy pitching places for tents,mobile homes and touring caravans,there is also 50 electric hook up points.There is no need to book any of theses pitches you ... ...we met were lovely!
Bunchrew is a family owned business,and the fellow we met called "Tony"is the owner,couldn't have been more pleasant and friendly,and went out of his way to make sure we were happy and settled in our caravan,and made sure we had everything we needed.The only thing we did need were extra duvets and pillows,which we were sent within 10minutes by the one site maids.You could often see Tony at all hours of the day ... more
Here we go again!Summer holidays are here,now we have bored kids,stressed parents and loads of time to kill.What oh what will we do this year? On our never ending quest as to what to do this year with the children this summer holiday,and not wanting to do the same old thing again,i asked for ideas to be thrown around,and you don't want to hear some of the replys! Help comes in the form of the trusty ole internet. We were looking for suitable caravan and camping sites that would suit our tight budget.We looked at all the usual suspects like Haven,Butlins ect,and found them to be very costly this year,and outside our price range for a family of five. "Will i ever find anything?" i wondered,and somewhere i would be happy with.Well the answer is yes! and it came in the form of "Bunchrew caravan and camping park". Now i had never heard of this place before,and after trailing through their web site,had finaly discovered exactly what i was looking for and at a reasonable price.So off i went to phone the site and booked a six berth caravan for a week in July this year. I only booked a week because,having never been there,i didn't know what to expect and if it turned out that it was not a nice place,then at least i wasn't commited to spending another week there.I however had no need to worry as it was realy very good.
THE~PARK. ----------------- Bunchrew Caravan and camping Park is located 3miles east of Inverness,and is siting on the beautiful shores of the Beauly Firth,with breathtaking views of Ben Wyvis.It is open from the Middle of March to the end of Nov every year.It has 125 level grassy pitching places for tents,mobile homes and touring caravans,there is also 50 electric hook up points.There is no need to book any of theses pitches you just turn up and grab a space when you want.They also have 14 Caravans which are avaliable to rent,but must be booked in advance,with a small deposit payable on booking via cheque or postal order.(Please refer to tarriff table for prices below). This park is also home to several residential caravans,whom people live permanently,but don't let that put you off,as most of the people we met were lovely! Bunchrew is a family owned business,and the fellow we met called "Tony"is the owner,couldn't have been more pleasant and friendly,and went out of his way to make sure we were happy and settled in our caravan,and made sure we had everything we needed.The only thing we did need were extra duvets and pillows,which we were sent within 10minutes by the one site maids.You could often see Tony at all hours of the day and night patrolling the campsite,keeping his eagle eye on how things were,and to make sure everyone was happy.A little added bonus (in my opinion) was there was a contact number for out of hours where he could always be reached if you encountered a problem.Fortunately we never had to call him.
THE CARAVAN --------------------- We had booked a six berth caravan,and we knew in advance what the name of the caravan was before we got there.My first impression was how clean externally it was,and expected the inside to be the same.We had spent the £280 for the week wisely. On entering the caravan my mind was laid to rest as it was also spotless, and very well aired.It comprised of... One double beedroom with ample wardrobe space for our clothes.The double bedding was very fresh and clean.There was also enough electric sockets to keep even me happy,for my hairdryer ect. One twin bedded room,enough for the two younger children.Again with very clean bedding,a good sized wardrobe for their clothes and a couple of sockets. The toilet/shower room,had everything you needed for its purpose i.e,a toilet,electric shaver socket,good sized shower cubicle,wash hand basin and shelves to put all your bits and bobs on.This room also met expectations as being very,very clean,there was even a bar or guest soap there for us too. The kitchen area was basic but acceptable,with a calor gas cooker,Fridge with a small ice box,which surprised us a to how much we could actualy fit in there.All cooking utensils are provided,along with plates,cups,saucers,knives forks ect. The living area,again was spick and span and very well looked after.There was a table that could be removed and the couches converted into a double bed,which our oldest slept on,and i am reliably informed that it was very comfortable.There was also a gas heater,and a 14inch colour tv,should the need arise to use it. The view we had from the large main window overlooking the beauly firth was great.There is also ample parking between the caravans for two or more cars.The only thing required of you,is to bring along bath towels,which we happily did.
THE PITCHING AREAS -------------------------------- These all all maintained to an excellent standard,and were hardly empty the whole week we were there.Of all the people who were camping that i had spoken to not one of them were unhappy about the pitches.Please once again refer to the prices table below for prices.This is also where you can find electric points for caravans and motorhomes.
FACILITIES ---------------- THE SHOP! The shop is also the reception area ,where you would report to when you first enter the campsite to pick up your keys.Its a good little shop,and has all the basics you would need should you run out of them i.e coffee,sugar,milk,papers.........It also sells a small selection of alcoholic beverages if the need arises.The visitor is well catered for her too,as there is a wealth of leaflets suggesting places to go and thing to see whilst there.There is a postbox avaliable for posting away the mandatory postcards home! You can even hire bikes for up to an hour for £1 and they suit all ages and sizes.
THE CHILDRENS PLAY AREAS ------------------------------------------- There are two of these within the site.One has a good little sandpit and swings,with a little football area,and another larger grass area opposite our caravan where children can play football properly,and can also play with their frizbee,bats and ball and a badminton netted area where they can play either badmington or volleyball.The childrens play areas are clearly signposted,so campers know not to set up camp on them.If they by chance happen to not notice,they are kindly asked to move.
THE TOILETS AND SHOWER BLOCKS ----------------------------------------------------- Although i didn't have the need for them,but all in the the name of research,i just had to go and have a look at what they had to offer the campers. They were to my surprise very well maintaind and also very clean,apparently they close them everyday for about an hour for cleaning.They were basic but had enough shower cubicles and toilets to keep even the most fussy camper happy ,they also offer hairdryers,which take 20p coins.At least there was enough to make happy clean campers. The gents,i'm told is much on the same scale,although no hairdryers were noticable.
THE LAUNDRY --------------------- This was a very good laundry! not too far from the caravans or the campers and idealy situated and clearly marked.As you enter the building there are two token operated front loading washing machines,and one very large tumbledryer.There is also a 10p coin operated iron for you to use too.As you walk through to the back,there is another two top loading tolken operated machines,and two tumbledryers.There is also a spinner (you have guessed i'm sure) tolken operated,but if you dont want to use the machines there is a large doulble sink for hand washing.Tokens can be bought from the site shop,a wash will cost you a £2 token and the dryers take 20p tokens,but be warned! you will only get about 10mins drying time per token.The spinner takes 10p tokens. Although i must admit i used the laundry quite a lot while i was there.
THE POT WASH BUILDING ------------------------------------- Again i just had to go and have a nosy! and its just a place to wash all your equipment should you be camping.It is a good size and can fit a few people at the one time.Not too far to the left of this building you wiil find the chemical toilet disposal point.I will leave that one to your imagination shall i?
MORE INFORMATION ------------------------------ Just a short walk through the woods next to the caravan park is a quaint little hotel called "Bunchrew House Hotel" which is open to non residents,if you fancy a night cap.This is a realy nice little place and the staff a happy to welcome you and have a bit of a yarn too.The hotel is often used for large weddings,so if you go up one night and it is closed,then they most likely have a wedding on,as most people will have booked the whole hotel.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS PARK? --------------------------------------------------- If it's a quiet family caravan park you are after without club houses and drunks going past your caravan at 3am then yes! As this site does not have a club or bar,and is very proud to be so.We met a great array of nationalities there ,who go year after year.We met people from,Germany,France,Italy,Spain and the Ukraine,all were only to happy to stop and have a chat or wave when they walked past the caravan. The children also loved playing with this great mixture of kids from other countries and would often run in and say "Guess what? so and so is from the Ukraine".They thought this was just wonderful. We enjoyed this place so much we have now booked a two week holiday for next year. Have a good think if you consider this camping site as i said,it has no special clubs or bars for adults or children,although i must say our kids never got bored,because we were just outside inverness,we were always away out somewhere, to Nairn beach,Avimore,or woodland walks so some where special.There was always something to go and see.
HOW TO GET THERE ------------------------------ By Car:- When you reach inverness follow the signs for Beauly,the road you want is the A826. By Bus:- Take the Beauly bus which leaves the station every hour on the hour. By Plane:- I would suggest just getting a taxi to the campsite,it would cost around £10. The campsites sign post is clearly marked at the entrance of the park on the main roadside.It is virtually unmissable.
