Advantages: Reasonable luxury, Disadvantages: Too much to choose from the Real Ales
I stopped at the Pickerings Country HouseHotel in Catterall some years ago and was impressed. However most recently I had the company of my sales director who was travelling with me to a company in near by Preston. I decided to stop once again after driving along the A6 and remembered the hotel was close. I can safely say I didn?t regret it. The mid week offer of £80.00 per room was reasonable considering we got DBB and two pints at the bar for free. The hotel has been taken over in recent years and it was noticed by myself, especially the quality of food and most importantly, cleanliness. As for the boss, he even paid my bill! I will be returning as the hotel is an ideal stop off for sales reps and the like. ...
Advantages: Posh hotel, it looks nice, but... Disadvantages: The staff
I went to stay here in 2006, I think. For my sisters wedding. It was a nice hotel, the architecture inside I knew wasn't real, but it was meant to look posh. Which it did, but only in one room... the reception. So, I stayed here for two days and one night. I didn't sleep on a proper bed, because the room was full in which I was sleeping in (Since its a wedding and all). So in the corner of the room, I had to sleep on a horrible, tiny, lumpy bed. Which can be folded again into a bag. Of course, I can't blame the hotel for the poor bed, because this was my own fault. I'm sure that if there weren't so many people I could of slept on the double bed, which is better.
So, in the early days, considering to be the 1800's - Alton HouseHotel used to be a house. Not a hotel. Rich people used to live in this house. It was only in the 1940's that ...
Advantages: Value for money, service, restaurant Disadvantages: Drive is on a very steep hill!
I've just got back from a long weekend in the Lake District. You might question the wisdom of going to the Lakes for a weekend of watersports and outdoor activities in wintry March, and you'd be right to do so! However, the gale force winds, hail and snow were made bearable by the excellent Hillthwaite HouseHotel where we were staying. The hotel was an absolute haven!
Basics
The hotel is a family run business and has about thirty rooms. We were staying on a special weekend offer and paid £185 each for three nights, including bed, breakfast and dinner. The hotel is in Windermere and is about a fifteen minute drive from the M6. It has a swimming pool, sauna and steam room.
Getting There
The hotel had sent a brochure after I booked on the phone and the brochure had a map on the back so I wasn't expecting any ...
