Telephone ordering for Tickets
Advantages: I got my money back Disadvantages: The fact that I had to spend that extra money because of their rubbish phone system
...beginning of July I called National Express to order 2 return tickets from Cambridge to Edinburgh for the end of August. These cost me £54 each They said we will have them at the station and you can pick them up before you travel.
I said thats ok.
The day of the travel came and i gave the ticket office the code/reference national express gave me over the phone. They didnt have my tickets available either under the reference number or my name or ... ...only option i had to do is buy 2 extra tickets at double the price £108 each. You can imagine my frustration. I called them after returning back from Edinburgh for the weekend and they had no recallection of me making the phone call, even though the money had been taken from my bank account. They said they needed confirmation from my bank statements to prove that the money had been taken (which is fair enough). A good end to the review as I recieved ...

Brilliant buses at a good price!
Advantages: Excellent service, good price, smart buses Disadvantages: I didn't find any
...pleasure of travelling on the Lothian Buses, and it certainly was a pleasure.
The Buses
The buses themselves all look new - I didn't see a scruffy one during the whole of my fortnight's stay in Edinburgh! The buses were clean and even the seats were all comfortable!
They all have CCTV on board to deter anti social behaviour and I didn't see any signs of it so maybe that's working. I don't know how long it has been in operation so I can't make ... ...day's unlimited travel on all Lothian buses.
There are ticket machines near some of the bus stops so you can purchase your ticket before you board the bus.
A night ticket will cost you £2.50 for all night travel after midnight and the buses are at least hourly even at night. It sounds like a good way to help cut back on drink driving incidents and it is certainly a lot cheaper than a taxi!
There is also something called Ridacard which are longer ...

Stagecoach Website
Advantages: Easy to use, good information Disadvantages: Adobe Reader needed
Note: I am reviewing the Stagecoach website, not the actual service. Although the serviced is very good 10/10. I have found the Stagecoach website to be very beneficial over the years, as it has seriously helped me with my travel around my local area. Firstly, I have to say that the Stagecoach website is so easy to use, especially if you are only looking for timetables. It couldn't be easier. Just find the service number of the bus you want to travel ... ...that bus for every day of the week in both directions. However, to view these timetables you do need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer. This isn't much of a set back as it is free and takes about 5 minutes to download. Most PCs have this installed already anyway. You can also view ticket prices and different types of deals that stagecoach has to offer. I have to say they are very good value for money especially if you buy a travel card ...

Mega Save on Megabus
Advantages: Quick and Easy Disadvantages: tiny toilets
I dislike train travel, finding it claustrophobic and expensive, so the coach is thje obvious alternative. Coach or bus travel is a territory more or less divided between National Express and Megabus, when it comes to booking online. Megabus is better for the following reasons.
Megabus use double decker coaches which means there is always a good chance of getting a seat with plenty of space around you, and plenty of leg room. Not so with National ... ...up to the last seat. Remember that even on Megabus it is now mandatory to wear a seat belt, which means a certain amount of discomfort.
Booking is much easier and quicker with Megabus if you have a Paypal account. You simply log into your Paypal account when it tells you and the whole thing is over and done with in a jiffy, whereas National Express does not offer a Paypal facility, so you have to enter all your bank details every time.
Megabus ...

A bargain at £1 each way!
Advantages: Regular as clockwork Disadvantages: I would obviously prefer a cab!
...leap to the defence of Arriva as they currently have a two star rating! I should state that I do understand that services will vary enormously around the country and I have had some bad bus journeys in the past...but I have discovered a very reliable buse servie in Watford that I have been nothing but impressed with. I regularly use the 142 or 258 from Watford Junction to Brent Cross as I often like to pop up to Bushey High Street, rather than go ... ...situated at teh train station. Arriva provide a very regular service on what is undoubtedly a busy route. The bus stop has a screen trhat updates me on the service and tells me when the next bus will be with me. I have never had to wait more than 4 minutes for a bus...impressive stuff eh! The best thing is that we are all able to pay with our Oyster cards (for those non-london folk, this is a piece of credit card sized plastic that you put money ...
