16 females went on our 2nd year to Butlins @ Skegness for the 70's weekend. We had travelled from various parts of the country, our ages range from 21 to 66 and our dance ability is just as varied.
We all have in common that we enjoy the 70's music good company and we all get along.
We set off Friday 9th Nov and as we could not get into the apartments until 4-00pm there was no rush.
We stayed in Silver apartments and it slept 6, and there was plenty of room for 6 females and all our belongings for the weekend. The total cost for the 3 rooms for 16 was £1,323-60 which worked out about £82 for the accommodation and entertainment for the weekend.
The kitchen cupboards were well stocked with mugs, glasses etc. we even had a microwave, iron and ironing board.
We went out Friday night dressed in our jim jams, fancy socks and slippers, we looked great………..
First port of call was the Sun and Moon pub, on site and it was buzzing. A lot of people dress up and the costumes are varied. The music is all 70's music and the bar was heaving. Sold Bateman's beer out of hand pumps, which was good.
We then went into the main arena and had a boogie all 16 of us. Again there are people of all ages, sizes and every kind of dress you could imagine and more besides. Some of us went off to see the artists in either Reds or Main Stage. We went to see the Mark Bolan, T Rex, tribute band at 12-00 whilst the others went to see Alvin Stardust. Both well worth seeing.
Saturday night is the big dress up night for those that want to. We had 70's wigs gear and looked the part, or we thought we did. We went to see Mud II and then again at midnight we all went to see The Stylistics. What can I say? We were all taken back to our youth and they were just magic to see and to hear, enough that two of the girls went to buy the C.D. and they signed it for them. We walked back to our apartments singing and all agreeing that it was wonderful.
This was our second year to the 70's weekend and the consensus is that we all book to go again next year. So Butlins here we come again.
If you are of any age and like this type of music we all would recommend going, for the thousands that are there, we saw no-one worse for drink or any fights or drunkenness. It is well run, well managed and organised and a big thank you and well done to Butlins.
